JOB PURPOSE
e2Companies is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design, integration, and commissioning of distributed generation systems, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, and industrial control platforms. This role serves as design authority for generator paralleling systems, protection philosophy, and integrated control architecture. The Senior Power Systems Engineer works closely with engineering, construction, controls, and project teams to deliver safe, reliable, and code-compliant utility-interactive power solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with generator synchronization, load shedding strategies, protective relaying, microgrid control systems, and medium-voltage distribution, and is comfortable leading both office-based design and field-based commissioning activities. The Senior Power Systems Engineer serves as the engineering authority that the Applications Engineer draws on throughout the delivery phase, providing design depth, compliance oversight, and technical leadership from concept through commissioning.
This position requires full-time, on-site employment at our Bonita Springs, Florida headquarters. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates willing relocate to Southwest Florida.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead electrical design: diesel, natural gas, CHP, hybrid, and renewable-integrated generation systems
  • Develop and approve SLDs, three-line diagrams, control schematics, and interconnection drawings
  • Own generator paralleling, synchronization strategies, and load shedding schemes
  • Develop protection philosophy: overcurrent, differential, reverse power, sync-check, coordination
  • Specify MV/LV switchgear, paralleling gear, transfer switches, and MCCs
  • Review short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, and transient stability studies
  • Architect PLC/relay-based control systems for paralleling, load shedding, and microgrid applications (Allen Bradley preferred)
  • Develop control narratives, SOO documentation, and I/O lists
  • Integrate SCADA, HMI, Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, Ethernet/IP
  • Lead FAT and SAT for switchgear and control systems
  • Oversee commissioning of generation assets and utility interconnections
  • Interface with utilities and AHJs for interconnection approvals
  • Troubleshoot protection, synchronization, and automation systems in live environments
  • Ensure NEC, NFPA 70, IEEE 1547, IEEE C37, UL 891, UL 1558, UL 508A compliance
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and hands-on commissioning support
  • Provide engineering depth to the Applications Engineer and Sales Engineer as needed on proposals, protection schemes, and system architecture questions
  • Other duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (MUST-HAVE)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with concentration in Power Systems preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in power generation, switchgear design, and protection systems.
  • Demonstrated ownership of generator paralleling systems and microgrid control strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of medium-voltage distribution systems, typically 4.16 kV through 34.5 kV.
  • Base knowledge of battery energy storage systems and renewable integration into distributed generation environments.
  • Experience designing protective relaying schemes including reverse power, sync-check, and load shed logic.
  • Proven experience leading FAT and SAT activities.
  • PLC configuration and programming experience, Allen Bradley preferred, equivalent industrial PLC platforms acceptable.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent drafting tools.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and fault analysis capability.
  • Clear technical communication skills.
  • High accountability and ownership mindset.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NICE-TO-HAVE)
  • Experience with CHP systems and utility-interactive renewable systems.
  • Familiarity with UL 2200 generator listings and NFPA 110 emergency power systems.
  • Experience in mission-critical environments such as data centers, healthcare, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems.
  • Experience with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar power system modeling tools.
WHO YOU ARE
  • You own the engineering. When the design leaves your desk, you are confident it is right and you can defend every decision in it
  • You think at the system level: protection philosophy, control architecture, and commissioning strategy are not separate problems to you, they are one problem
  • You are as comfortable in a live switchgear room during commissioning as you are in a design review with the project team
  • You set the technical bar for the people around you and you take that responsibility seriously
  • You thrive in environments where the standards are high, the timelines are real, and the margin for error is low
  • You bring deep expertise and the self-awareness to know when a problem needs a different set of eyes
HERE'S WHAT YOU GET
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and impact
  • PTO and paid sick time to support work-life balance
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage
  • Equity participation through the Employee Incentive Program
