About the Company

Our client is a leading independent power generation platform that owns and operates more than 7 GW of utility-scale wind, solar, and natural gas generation assets across the United States.

The company is focused on delivering reliable, sustainable power while creating long-term value for customers, employees, and investors. With operations spanning renewable and conventional generation, the organization provides its engineering professionals with the opportunity to work across a diverse and technically challenging asset portfolio.

About the Position

The Electrical Engineer will join the corporate Electrical Engineering team and provide engineering support across the company's nationwide fleet of solar, wind, and thermal generating assets.

This role offers broad exposure to system protection, electrical safety, maintenance and reliability, NERC compliance, event diagnosis, restoration, development, and M&A activities.

Reporting to the Manager of Electrical Engineering, the Electrical Engineer will troubleshoot complex electrical events, perform power system studies, support regulatory compliance, review protection systems, and provide technical guidance to plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose plant electrical events using relay records, COMTRADE files, and plant reports; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support to operating sites during electrical events, including fault location and protective-relaying recommendations.
  • Develop and review relay settings, protection upgrades, and third-party protection and control designs.
  • Perform short-circuit, load-flow, coordination, and arc-flash studies using ETAP or similar software.
  • Conduct arc-flash hazard analyses and support electrical safety and mitigation initiatives.
  • Review switching, isolation, and LOTO procedures.
  • Support maintenance and reliability programs for transformers, breakers, substations, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Review equipment maintenance and testing results and provide recommendations.
  • Support troubleshooting of transformers, relays, breakers, and other electrical equipment.
  • Perform and support NERC PRC, MOD, and FAC compliance studies, testing, reporting, and audits.
  • Support NERC RFIs, self-certifications, periodic data submissions, and regulatory audits.
  • Provide electrical engineering input for new development and M&A activities, including technical reviews and operational risk assessments.
  • Support root-cause analysis, risk assessment, engineering processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Provide on-site support during outages and electrical events as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in power generation, transmission, and/or distribution.
  • Utility-scale and renewable generation experience preferred.
  • PE license preferred; candidates without a PE should have at least 5 years of practicing engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of system protection, arc flash, electrical safety, maintenance/reliability, and NERC compliance.
  • Experience performing power system studies using ETAP, SKM Power Tools, EasyPower, or similar software.
  • Knowledge of protective relaying, relay settings, configuration, and event-record analysis.
  • Strong understanding of NERC reliability standards, particularly PRC, MOD, and FAC requirements.
  • Experience supporting NERC audits, RFIs, self-certifications, and regulatory submissions.
  • Strong knowledge of power plant electrical equipment, controls, and protection systems.

Benefits

  • $140,000-$170,000 salary
  • Denver or Charlotte office location, with remote flexibility for the right candidate.
  • Opportunity to support a diverse portfolio of 7+ GW of wind, solar, and natural gas generation.
  • Broad technical exposure across protection, reliability, electrical safety, NERC compliance, and power systems.
  • Professional development and opportunities for technical growth.
  • Collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment.
