Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The BI Developer develops analytical products, dashboards, predictive models, machine learning solutions, and decision-support capabilities. This includes translating business questions into analytical workflows, engineer features, build models, and deliver insights that support FAA mission operation Responsibilities include support data exploration, visualization, statistical modeling, and AI/ML development in alignment with responsible AI and governance policies. This role creates dashboards, reporting layers, KPIs, and business semantic models for FAA1, PURE, and EDP.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) 

  • Experience using Tableau, Business Objects (BO), Power BI, and SQL.
  • A minimum of 4 years of demonstratable experience developing business intelligence products in an enterprise environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, data science, IT, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience as a Business Intelligence Analyst or in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering sophisticated business intelligence deliverables (reports, dashboards, etc.) in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling and data warehousing concepts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex analytical findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in aviation industry is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of business intelligence concepts, data warehousing, and reporting best practices.
  • Knowledge of relational and dimensional data modeling, including star and snowflake schemas.
  • Proficiency with BI and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or Palantir Foundry’s visualization modules if applicable).
  • Familiarity with SQL for querying, data extraction, and manipulation.
  • Awareness of ETL processes and data integration techniques.
  • Understanding of key business processes and metrics, with the ability to translate business needs into analytical requirements.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, privacy, and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA, FAA if applicable).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based analytics platforms, especially AWS (e.g., QuickSight, Redshift) and Azure (e.g., Power BI, Synapse).
  • Ability to analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Skilled in designing, developing, and maintaining dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support business decision-making.
  • Proficient in gathering business requirements and translating them into functional BI solutions.
  • Experience with creating and optimizing SQL queries, views, and stored procedures for reporting purposes.
  • Ability to validate and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of reported data.
  • Skilled in automating recurring reports and developing self-service BI solutions for stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, including root cause analysis and data validation.
  • Proficient in documenting BI processes, definitions, and methodologies for transparency and reproducibility.
  • Experience with data storytelling—explaining insights and recommendations clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate with business users, data engineers, and data scientists to deliver effective BI solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
