Job description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transmission Line Project Manager- Remote in our Power & Energy team in Columbus, NE. The following locations will also be considered: St. Louis, MO, Topeka, KS, Wichita, KS, Kansas City, MO, Lincoln, NE, Omaha, NE and Overland Park, KS.  This is also a remote position with the ability to work from a mutually acceptable location in the Central Time Zone.  Be involved in projects with our Program Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients\' objectives and solves their challenges.

This Opportunity

Provides technical project supervision, and guidance with managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of assigned Transmission project(s) in accordance with WSP’s core values and the level of project services agreed upon in the contract by WSP and the client(s).  Tasks include responsibility for the overall performance of the assigned project(s) that are of moderate size/complexity and/or local/regional in scope, and includes oversight for financial, technical, client satisfaction, quality, safety, and schedule.  Ensures that responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle (proposal phase, project startup and planning, project execution, reporting, and project closeout) are adhered to, delivered, and audited with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable corporate standards for safety, execution, profitability, and operational purpose.

Your Impact
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical professionals to execute power delivery project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, deliverables, compliance documentation, and managing the contractual obligations to deliver the project(s) as defined in the contract.
  • Play a contributing role in the development of project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans. 
  • Develop the work breakdown structure (WBS) tasks and estimated costs.
  • Establish the level of technical review required for the project, selecting appropriately qualified staff to perform the required reviews, and adherence to the QA/QC plan, as applicable.
  • Contribute to performing margin analyses, establishing margin goals and risk contingencies.
  • Coordinate and assist with the technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentation, and meetings.
  • Develop and update the Project Initiation/Setup Documentation including: Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan as necessary.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Accounting to monitor and track project metrics, estimated time-to-completion, cash management, and budgeted margin for a project or an assigned portfolio of projects. 
  • Oversee management of budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control.
  • Coordinate with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontracting requirements in a timely manner.
  • Immediately communicate and escalate any project site Health & Safety or significant client issues to senior PM staff and leadership.
  • Participate in problem project reviews, providing input about root cause issues and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers, identifying any emergent issues with scope, risk, and/or budget.
  • Monitor accounts receivable (AR) and unbilled revenue, working to address issues as needed.
  • Work with the Procurement Department to closeout procurements and/or supplier agreements as appropriate.
  • Complete formal project closeout activities, along with conducting and documenting a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff.
  • Remain current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP).
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
     
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • 7 + years of relevant post education experience in a project management role leading engineering and construction teams on medium to large scale Transmission projects within the Power Delivery/Utility Industry. 
  • Sound understanding of project delivery process within the A/E/C industry and well-defined background and experience in project management.
  • Knowledge and experience with project management processes and tools required, including:
    o    Contract Management
    o    External and Internal Team Meeting Management
    o    Earned Value Management
    o    Change Management
    o    Risk Management
    o    Schedule Management (this includes experience with CPM project schedules such as Primavera P6 or equivalent
    o    Financial Management
  • Sound understanding of project delivery process within the A/E/C industry and well-defined background and experience in project management.
  • Well-developed analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management.
  • Competent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes. 
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Competent with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating resources and assertively directing consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others to complete tasks competently and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel (up to 25%) will be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential project management certification (e.g., PMP, CAP-M).

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $102,200 - $182, 200
