What is remote PLC ladder logic programming?

Remote PLC Ladder Logic Programming refers to the process of designing, developing, and troubleshooting ladder logic programs for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) from a remote location. This allows engineers and technicians to update, monitor, or diagnose PLC-controlled systems without being physically present on-site. Remote programming is commonly used in industrial automation to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and support geographically dispersed operations. It requires reliable network connections and secure remote access tools to ensure safe and effective control of machinery and processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote PLC ladder logic programmer?

To thrive as a Remote PLC Ladder Logic Programmer, you need a strong background in industrial automation, control systems engineering, and proficiency in ladder logic programming, often supported by a degree in electrical or automation engineering. Familiarity with major PLC platforms (such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Schneider Electric) and programming software, along with relevant certifications, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication are vital soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure reliable system operation, efficient troubleshooting, and seamless collaboration with on-site teams, which are critical for maintaining industrial processes remotely.

What are some common challenges faced by remote PLC ladder logic programmers, and how can they be overcome?

Remote PLC Ladder Logic Programmers often face challenges such as limited access to on-site hardware for testing and troubleshooting, as well as communication gaps with on-site engineers or operators. To overcome these issues, it's important to establish clear channels for remote diagnostics, utilize simulation tools for code testing, and maintain regular virtual meetings with the on-site team. Building strong documentation practices and remote support protocols can also help ensure smooth project execution and minimize downtime.

Job description

About Virtasant
Virtasant is a global technology services company with a network of over 4,000 technology professionals across 130+ countries. We specialize in cloud architecture, infrastructure, migration, and optimization, helping enterprises scale efficiently while maintaining cost control.
Our clients range from Fortune 500 companies to fast-growing startups, relying on us to build high-performance infrastructure, optimize cloud environments, and enable continuous delivery at scale.
About the role
We are looking for a Functional Lead, Production Accounting with strong upstream oil & gas experience to support a critical ProCount system conversion in an acquisition-driven environment.
This role sits at the intersection of production accounting, systems, data, and operations. The ideal candidate understands production accounting processes and can translate business requirements and accounting logic into system configuration, data validation, testing, and conversion activities.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can move quickly, work independently, and collaborate effectively across accounting, operations, data engineering, and IT teams.
What You'll Do
  • Lead functional activities related to the ProCount system conversion and implementation.
  • Translate production accounting business requirements and processes into system configuration and functional solutions.
  • Support production accounting processes including allocation, DOI, production-to-revenue, and related reconciliation activities.
  • Validate production and accounting data during the conversion process.
  • Work closely with data engineers on datasets, SQL queries, flat files, and data validation.
  • Develop and execute UAT, parallel testing, and reconciliation/validation activities.
  • Investigate data discrepancies and help determine root causes and appropriate resolutions.
  • Support the integration and validation of data flows across SCADA, production, and revenue systems.
  • Collaborate with accounting, operations, IT, and technical teams to ensure business requirements are accurately implemented.
  • Work in a fast-moving, acquisition-driven environment where requirements and priorities may evolve.
  • Provide functional leadership throughout the conversion and help establish reliable processes for ongoing production accounting operations.

What We're Looking For
Must-Have Experience
  • 8-15+ years of experience in upstream oil & gas.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of production accounting, including allocation, DOI, and production-to-revenue processes.
  • Hands-on experience with ProCount.
  • Previous experience with system implementations, migrations, or conversions - not solely system support or end-user experience.
  • Experience with data validation, UAT, parallel testing, and reconciliation.
  • Comfortable working with data engineers and technical teams on datasets, SQL, flat files, and data validation.
  • Ability to translate business and production accounting requirements into system configuration and functional solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across business and technical teams.
    Nice-to-haves
  • Experience supporting M&A or acquisition-related system conversions.
  • Exposure to integrations and data flows such as SCADA → Production → Revenue.
  • Experience developing or working with reconciliation and data validation frameworks.
  • Experience working in environments with multiple production accounting systems or acquired assets.
Our recruitment process
  • Recruiter interview (30 min)
  • Client Interview I (60 min)
