Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic medical records (EMR), and secure communication tools is essential. Instead of meeting with patients in person, remote PTAs work with patients via video calls, phone calls, or specialized telehealth software. Their responsibilities include guiding patients through exercises, monitoring progress, educating patients on treatment plans, and communicating updates to supervising physical therapists. This role allows PTAs to reach patients who may have difficulty visiting clinics, such as those living in remote areas or with mobility challenges. Remote PTAs must still adhere to state licensing regulations and often work under the direction of a licensed physical therapist.
