Role Overview

The Senior Paralegal serves as a key operational lead within the Legal Department, overseeing complex legal matters, managing department workflow, and directly supervising junior legal support staff. Reporting to executive legal leadership, this role manages high-level contract drafting and negotiation, complex litigation oversight, advanced corporate governance, and escalated regulatory matters. The Senior Paralegal exercises independent judgment, provides team leadership, and solves sophisticated legal and business challenges across the enterprise.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise, train, and guide Paralegal I and II team members, including distributing workloads, auditing work quality, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Draft, analyze, and negotiate complex commercial contracts, leases, vendor agreements, and specialized legal instruments with minimal oversight.
  • Oversee litigation management across all jurisdictions, serving as the primary liaison between external counsel, in-house attorneys, and internal business leaders.
  • Direct complex corporate governance activities, including drafting corporate resolutions, managing entity formations/dissolutions, and maintaining master corporate minute books.
  • Manage high-level legal and compliance escalations, analyzing precedent, business risk, and regulatory standards to recommend actionable solutions to counsel.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to review operational strategies and support legal needs within Licensing, Third-Party Origination, Contracts, and Facilities.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of department checklists, document workflows, and record management technology.
  • Draft formal responses, borrower communications, and legal positions for escalated regulatory, customer, or executive matters.
  • Serve as a primary subject matter expert regarding mortgage lending systems, regulatory requirements, and corporate legal archives.
  • Handle advanced or sensitive legal projects and perform other leadership duties as assigned by General Counsel.
  • Manage coverage and supervise employees for our front lobby operations by greeting guests, issuing visitor badges, escorting visitors, inventory, supply ordering, breakroom cleaning and handling incoming phone inquiries.

  • Advanced mastery of legal terminology, complex contract mechanics, and regulatory framework within financial services.
  • Deep knowledge of mortgage lending, loan servicing, real estate transactions, and banking operations.
  • Advanced proficiency in legal research platforms, contract lifecycle management tools, and enterprise document systems.
  • Proven leadership, supervisory, and mentorship skills with a track record of driving team accuracy and productivity.
  • Superior analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage complex, unprecedented issues independently.
  • Exceptional executive-level written and verbal communication abilities.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Business, or a related discipline, combined with 4-6 years of progressive paralegal experience in a corporate legal department or law firm; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of direct supervisory or team lead experience required.
  • Paralegal certificate from an accredited institution or ABA-approved program preferred.
  • Significant experience in mortgage, banking, real estate, finance, or loan servicing industries strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional movement inside the office to access office machinery or filing cabinets.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
