Remote Pcb Layout Engineer information

What is a remote PCB layout engineer?

Remote PCB layout engineers are professionals who design the physical layout of printed circuit boards (PCBs) while working from a remote location rather than on-site. They use specialized computer-aided design (CAD) software to create schematics, place components, and route electrical connections according to design specifications and industry standards. Remote PCB layout engineers collaborate with hardware engineers, manufacturers, and other team members through digital communication tools to ensure the design meets both functional and manufacturability requirements. Their work is critical for developing electronic devices used in various industries, such as consumer electronics, automotive, and telecommunications.

How does a remote PCB layout engineer typically collaborate with hardware and firmware teams to ensure successful project outcomes?

Remote PCB Layout Engineers often work closely with hardware and firmware teams through regular virtual meetings, shared design tools, and collaborative platforms. They are responsible for interpreting schematics, clarifying requirements, and ensuring that the layout aligns with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturability constraints. Clear communication and timely feedback are essential, as design iterations may require rapid adjustments based on team input. Effective collaboration helps to identify potential issues early and ensures that the final PCB meets both functional and production standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote PCB layout engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote PCB Layout Engineer, you need strong expertise in electronics, circuit design, and PCB layout principles, typically backed by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Proficiency with industry-standard CAD tools like Altium Designer, OrCAD, or Eagle, as well as knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) and relevant IPC standards, is essential. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective remote communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills and qualities ensure accurate, reliable PCB designs that meet both technical and project requirements in a distributed work environment.

What is the difference between Remote Pcb Layout Engineer vs Remote Electronics Design Engineer?

AspectRemote Pcb Layout EngineerRemote Electronics Design Engineer
CredentialsExperience in PCB design, CAD tools, and industry standardsElectrical engineering degree, circuit design skills, and simulation knowledge
Work EnvironmentDesigning PCB layouts for electronic products, often in a collaborative teamDeveloping electronic circuits and systems, often involving schematic and PCB design
Industry UsageCommon in electronics manufacturing, consumer devices, and IoT sectorsUsed across electronics, aerospace, automotive, and industrial sectors

The main difference is that a Remote Pcb Layout Engineer focuses specifically on designing the physical layout of printed circuit boards, while a Remote Electronics Design Engineer handles broader electronic circuit development, including schematic design and system integration. Both roles require technical expertise but differ in scope and daily tasks.

We are continually innovating to deliver new and creative, unusual solutions to extraordinary problems in a wide range of sectors. To this purpose, we are now seeking a hard-working Senior Package Layout Engineer who is committed to making a difference in the world through their contributions!

This position will collaborate with Technical Package Lead and different design teams in the design and development of sophisticated, detailed layout of IC substrates for NVIDIA products. In addition, work with design teams to plan schedules, resolve costs, manufacturing, and electrical design issues.

What you'll be doing:

  • As part of a Layout team, you will collaborate to implement high speed/density ASIC packages.

  • Perform substrate breakout patterns for ASIC packages.

  • Optimize package pinout incorporating system level trade-offs of pins assignment.

  • Help perform package routing, placement, stack-up, reference plane and power distribution using Cadence APD or SiP tool suite.

  • Propose layout design trade-offs to the Technical Package Lead for resolution and implementation.

  • Conduct design feasibility studies to evaluate the Package design goals for size, cost, and system performance.

  • Develop symbols and CAD library databases using Cadence APD design tools

  • Develop methodologies to improve layout productivity

What we need to see:

  • Hold a B.S. Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years experience in PCB Layout of graphics cards, motherboards, line cards or other related technology. Experience with HDI designs is a plus

  • Proven experience in substrate layout of wire bond and flip chip packages, preferred

  • Significant background with Cadence APD or SiP and/or PCB layout tools (including Constraint Manager)

  • Solid understanding of high-speed design signal integrity practices

  • Experience with Virtuoso and Calibre is a plus

  • Experience using Valor is helpful
