In a large business, a payroll manager oversees a payroll processor, whose responsibilities include working to process and issue checks after taking steps to collect benefit payments, tax withholdings, and other dues. A payroll processor or payroll manager can work for one employer or multiple employers on a contract basis.

  • Manage and support projects including audits, reviews, year-end closeouts, and tax report preparation.
  • Produce accounting‑related reports as needed.
  • Ensure documentation of relevant accounting procedures and maintain high standards of accuracy and compliance.
  • Recommend and lead improvements to processes and workflows.
  • Conduct and oversee periodic quality reviews of data and staff work.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline preferred; Accounting major strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll tax processing, or related field, including staff supervision or leadership responsibilities.
