What is a Remote Part 135 Cargo SIC?

Remote Part 135 Cargo SICs are Second-in-Command pilots who assist in operating cargo aircraft under Part 135 regulations, often flying to remote or underserved locations. These positions are typically with air carriers that transport freight, medical supplies, or essential goods to areas not easily accessible by ground transportation. SICs work under the supervision of a Captain and help ensure safe flight operations, compliance with FAA regulations, and efficient cargo delivery. Remote operations can involve challenging weather conditions and unique logistical demands, requiring strong airmanship and adaptability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Part 135 Cargo SIC?

To thrive as a Remote Part 135 Cargo SIC (Second in Command), you need a commercial pilot certificate with multi-engine and instrument ratings, flight experience meeting FAA Part 135 requirements, and a strong understanding of aviation regulations. Familiarity with electronic flight bags (EFBs), advanced navigation systems, and company-specific dispatch software is typically required. Exceptional situational awareness, communication, and teamwork skills help you operate safely in dynamic environments and coordinate with captains and ground personnel. These skills and qualifications are crucial to ensure regulatory compliance, operational safety, and efficient cargo transport in remote or challenging locations.
