Lumos is looking for a full-time OSP Project Engineer! If you're an experienced OSP/telecommunications professional who enjoys solving complex problems, working with data, and collaborating across teams to drive projects forward, we'd love to hear from you.

As an OSP Project Engineer, you'll play a key role in supporting the planning, validation, and execution of our fiber network expansion projects. You'll review and analyze OSP construction prints, CAD drawings, GIS data, and reporting to identify discrepancies, recommend solutions, and help convert near-net locations to on-net service. Working closely with Engineering, Construction, and field leadership, you'll ensure projects remain accurate, efficient, and aligned from design through execution while helping drive continuous process improvements across our growing fiber network.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepares detailed construction & installation drawings and reviews OSP construction prints, CAD drawings, and GIS data to ensure alignment with Network Planning and project requirements.
  • Provides estimates of labor and materials costs and design loss calculations.
  • Maps and drafts utilizing CAD & manual processes; researches & updates International Construction Measurement Standards (ICMS) records, appropriate permits, and ISP designs.
  • Manages & tracks OSP work schedules to ensure alignment with project requirements and timelines; develops cost studies, performs estimates, reports on project progress, budget forecasting, tracking, & reporting.
  • Performs data validation and comparison using Excel, Snowflake/SQL queries, and reporting tools to identify discrepancies and support engineering decisions.
  • Liaises with city officials to manage permitting processes and ensure compliance.
  • Liaises with customers regarding land acquisitions for easements.
  • Provides real-time direction to colleagues to meet project timelines & contractual obligations.
  • Communicates & escalates contractual, technical, scheduling, or data-related issues that are in jeopardy or could affect customer or project progress.
  • Reviews all permits, rights of way, easements, and negotiations needed for project completion.
  • Tracks and follows up on all issues & actions encountered by colleagues and vendors.
  • Integrates innovations into design, engineering, and reporting practices.
  • Collaborates with Sales as needed to develop tailored design solutions for potential customers.
  • Oversees and guides design-permitting vendors, ensuring their work aligns with business objectives and project requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including departmental & cross-functional projects.

What You'll Bring:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA rules, site safety, National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements, and associated construction and telecommunications federal and local regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis); experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools preferred.
  • Experience reading OSP construction prints, CAD drawings, and GIS mapping systems such as 3GIS or equivalent platforms.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake and SQL queries for running, validating, and comparing data is preferred.
  • Able to respond promptly, manage multiple tasks & customer needs, and prioritize progress toward deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of company processes including but not limited to:
    • OSP construction
    • Site preparation and permitting
    • OSP testing and acceptance standards
    • Creating design for local L2 and Transport architecture
    • Google Earth and various fiber mapping platforms

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • 3+ years' technical experience working in OSP Engineering, Construction, or Operations.
