Job description

About the role
As a Lead Java FS Engineer, you will oversee the design, develop, and maintain secure, mission-critical distributed components within our high-scale Retail Order Management ecosystem. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in modern Java architectures, a deep understanding of server application behavior in Unix environments, and expert-level proficiency in front-end development using Angular. You will be responsible for delivering resilient end-to-end solutions (both frontend and backend) in an Agile framework.
Note: Active Top Secret Clearance is required (Mandatory)
In this role, you will:
• Architecture & Development: Code, design, and build scalable, distributed backend server applications, RESTful APIs, and dynamic, responsive user interfaces using Angular from scratch.
• End-to-End Integration: Seamlessly connect robust Java-based microservices with interactive Angular frontends, ensuring optimal performance, security, and user experience.
• Testing & Optimization: Lead engineering standards by writing robust JUnit test cases for backend code, implementing frontend unit tests (Karma/Jasmine), and performing runtime performance profiling.
• Team Collaboration: Act as a proactive self-starter within distributed agile teams, ensuring overall code quality through comprehensive peer reviews and git-based workflows.

What you need to have to be considered:
• Core & Enterprise Java: 8 to 10+ years of deep hands-on experience in Core Java (Java 8+), Multithreading, and extensive J2EE enterprise knowledge (EJBs, Servlets, JSP, Struts, Application Servers, and XML technologies).
• Frontend Mastery: 4+ years of hands-on experience with Angular (Angular 2+), TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and state management libraries (e.g., NgRx).
• Framework Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and automated testing via JUnit and frontend testing tools.
• Domain Expertise: Mandatory experience working within the Retail Domain, focusing specifically on Order Management systems.
• Distributed Ecosystems: Strong background in asynchronous processing and data layers using Apache Kafka, SQL, and Unix-based system operations (including Shell Scripting).
• Build & Version Control: Extensive experience with modern software build tools like Maven, Nexus, and Gradle, alongside web build tools (npm/Webpack) and structured source control using GitHub.

• NoSQL Databases: Hands-on experience with MongoDB or similar NoSQL document stores.
• Cloud Architecture: Working knowledge or experience deploying full-stack web applications within the AWS ecosystem.
• Performance Profiling: Familiarity with application profiling tools such as jMeter, YourKit, or jProbe to identify code and memory bottlenecks (frontend or backend).
• UI/UX Component Libraries: Experience with Angular Material, Bootstrap, or PrimeNG.
• Excellent Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate seamlessly across cross-functional distributed teams.
• Problem-Solving: An analytical mindset capable of debugging complex, high-concurrency issues in a production environment as well as solving tricky frontend state management bugs.

Salary and compensation:
The annual salary for this position will be between $70,000 to $140,000 per year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
