What is a remote operations manager?

A Remote Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating business operations from a remote location rather than a traditional office setting. This role typically involves managing teams, workflows, and processes to ensure efficiency, productivity, and alignment with company goals, all while leveraging digital tools and communication platforms. Remote Operations Managers must be skilled in virtual leadership, project management, and problem-solving to effectively support distributed teams. Their duties often include monitoring key performance indicators, implementing process improvements, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations despite geographical distances.

What does a remote operations manager do?

The job duties of a remote operations manager involve managing a production process or the provision of a service. As a remote operations manager, you work from home to monitor business operations, plan a budget, and come up with strategies to improve efficiency, quality, and profits. Some of your job responsibilities vary depending on the industry in which you work. In fields such as production, you oversee quality assurance (QA) operations. In all positions, you coordinate with employees and departments and run meetings virtually. Some jobs require you to visit work or production sites occasionally.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote operations manager, and why are they important?

To succeed as a Remote Operations Manager, you need strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills, usually supported by a relevant degree and operations experience. These competencies are critical for ensuring operational efficiency, team alignment, and successful delivery of business objectives in a remote environment.

How do remote operations managers effectively oversee distributed teams and ensure smooth workflow?

Remote Operations Managers typically rely on digital collaboration tools and clear communication protocols to coordinate team activities across different locations. They schedule regular virtual check-ins, set clear expectations, and monitor progress using project management software. Building trust and fostering engagement are crucial, as is being proactive in addressing time zone differences and potential communication barriers. This role often requires adaptability and strong problem-solving skills to maintain team cohesion and operational efficiency in a remote environment.

Senior Creative Operations Manager (Temp-to-Hire)

Armada

Los Angeles, CA โ€ข On-site, Remote

$114K - $143K/yr

Full-time, Contractor, Temporary

Posted 14 days ago

Job description

About the Role

Armada is doing things nobody has done before, andย successfully tellingย ourย story takes a team.ย As Creative Operations Manager,ย you areย theย operational force who keeps that team moving.ย

ย
Day to day,ย you'reย making sure all creative projects stay on track both externallyย and internally. Milestones, creative development, and vendor/contractor relationships are the gears you keep turning. Whenย we'reย in production, you shift intoย a moreย traditional producing role:ย assistingย with pre-production,ย building budgets, and running theย logisticsย that keep aย shootย on schedule.ย

ย
Youย don'tย need to be an artist yourself, but you do needย to haveย excellent taste. Key to this roleย isย the ability to recognizeย great talentย when hiring contractorsย andย to knowย when the last round of notes hasย (or hasย not) met the mark. You are a critical filter helping to ensureย thatย theย Armada brandย staysย premium.ย

ย
Ideallyย you'reย based in Los Angeles, so you can travel with the Creative Director andย support withย production gear and on-the-groundย logistics.ย

Please note that this role is a temp-to-hire position. Strong performers will be considered for full-time placement at the end of the contract period. This role is eligible for overtime.

Location:ย  Los Angeles, CA (Remote)

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Own project management for all internal and external creative projects: set timelines, track status, flag risks, and keep every workstream movingย
  • Source, vet, and manage creative contractors and vendors: photographers, editors, motion designers, illustrators, print production houses, and equipment suppliersย
  • Produce shoots end-to-end: pre-production planning,ย budgeting,ย gear rentals, travel and lodging, on-setย logistics, and post-production coordinationย
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support shoots, events, and field productionsย
  • Manageย Armada'sย merch program: vendor relationships, design approvals, quality control, order fulfillment, and ongoing inventoryย
  • Help scope new creative endeavors: research vendors, methods, and costs to take ideas from zero to oneย

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in production, creative operations, or a hybrid producer/project manager roleย
  • Proven ability to run multiple complex projects at once. You hold every commitment, deadline, and detail in your head, and you buildย systemsย so youย don'tย have toย
  • Experience sourcing, hiring, and managing creative contractors and vendors, with a sharp eye for recognizing creative talentย
  • Comfort building and managing budgets and tracking spend against themย
  • Hands-on AV knowledge. You can spec a camera package, walk through an audio chain, and understand the gear that goes into a single or multi-camera shootย
  • Sharp soft skills. You can manage difficult vendor conversations and stay calm on set when something goes wrongย
  • Open to travel on short notice, including international and to remote locationsย

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Based in Los Angeles, with the ability to travel with the Creative Director on shoots andย assistย with gear and on-the-ground productionย
  • Experience at a technology company or startup, ideally in a fast-paced environment with limited existing infrastructureย
  • Background in commercial, brand, or editorial productionย
  • Comfort working directly with C-level or founder-level creative leadershipย
  • Knowledge of the merch and apparel space, from design approval through fulfillmentย

Compensation

For U.S. Based candidates: To ensure fairness and transparency, the starting base salary range for this role for candidates in the U.S. are listed below, varying based on location experience, skills, and qualifications.

We use a geographic pay structure based on cost-of-labor markets. This role is a contract to hire ย opportunity with the intent to convert to full-time employment after 3 months contingent upon strong performance. The range listed represents the estimated total over a full year.
