As a Principal Engineer for the Consumer Engineering Rx Pharmacy team, you'll be responsible for evaluating and setting technical design directions, working in-concern your delivery peers' teams to implement.  You are expected to be very hands-on in the design & implementation.  We need someone with a solid background in architecture, design patterns, and engineering best-practices.   An aptitude for collaboration across product & engineering teams is critical to further evolve our product offerings and proliferate into various surfaces.

We are looking for someone exhibiting exceptional experience with:

  • DevSecOps
  • Hands-on development knowledge (Node JS / Java / Go)
  • Performance engineering

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Building and supporting Public Cloud-based applications & components
  • Use your expertise to lay down architectural foundations and provide guidance on development, with an eye toward avoiding and reducing technical debt
  • Delivery of roadmap that helps transform capabilities by combining access to the right tools, data, platforms and scalable computing with Optum's healthcare expertise and industry leading data assets
  • Produce high quality solutions that are highly reliable and scalable
  • Work directly with Business, Technology, Digital partners to drive development of new service/product offerings
  • Encourage the growth of engineers through skills development, objectives and goal setting
  • Collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team of engineers, product leaders, scrum masters & User Experience engineers
  • Support the software delivery team's ability to rapidly deliver high-value, quality software with use of automation and "everything - as - code" (EaC) best practices
  • Ensure application stability with exceptional quality, reliability engineering, and security controls

Required Qualifications:

  • 13 years of experience leading software engineering solutions architecture for data intensive, scalable, high throughput platforms, and applications  
  • 13 years of experience with back-end technologies, such as Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Rest API Development   
  • 7 years of experience leading technology operations for large and complex high throughput application or a technology platform  
  • 5 years of experience with front-end web technologies, such as Angular, React, JavaScript, Typescript Node JS   
  • 5 years of Full Stack Engineering Concepts (Front End Web Technologies & Back End Technologies) and hands-on on latest technologies   
  • 5 years of experience enabling DevOps maturity by driving CI/CD, automation, IaC and continuous monitoring in all the applications
  • 3 years of experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) on Azure using Terraform and Azure Kubernetes Service

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience facilitating and leading architecture & delivery planning activities across geographically diverse and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience with formulating technology strategy, budget, and policies at multiple levels of an organization
  • Experience with Azure components relating to networking, security, compute, and resiliency
  • Experience with building mobile applications and/or leading mobile development teams
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate with a deep technical understanding of emerging technologies to address needs and problems of providing services to large and technically progressive organizations
  • Demonstrated communication skills including explaining complex concepts effectively to technical and nontechnical audience, negotiation and persuasion, conflict resolution, and presenting to executive levels management

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
