Job description

Job Title: Network Security Engineer (3rd Shift)
Location: Remote (Preference for candidates near People Centers - optional)
Shift: Sunday night - Thursday night, 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM EST
Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
Travel: Up to 10% (typically 1-2 trips per year; travel expenses covered by Client)
Overview:
Client Financial Services is seeking a Network Security Engineer to join its Network Operations and Security team. This position is specifically for third-shift operations (10 PM-6 AM EST, Sunday-Thursday) and will focus on supporting, maintaining, and implementing firewall and web proxy changes during the organization's nightly change window.
This role provides exposure to large-scale enterprise network environments and collaboration with engineering and operations teams across Client and Client as part of the ongoing merger integration.
Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in network security engineering or related operations roles.
  • Strong expertise in firewall management (policy configuration, troubleshooting, change control).
  • Proficiency in web proxy technologies such as Broadcom (Blue Coat) and/or Netskope.
  • Experience with Palo Alto and Cisco firewalls.
  • Understanding of IDS/IPS and network monitoring tools.
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow (for incident/change management).
  • Solid understanding of network protocols, TCP/IP, VPN, and routing/switching fundamentals.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to respond to high-impact network events.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document and communicate technical issues clearly.
  • Experience with automation tools or scripting (Python, Ansible, etc.) for network operations.
  • Customer service or client-facing background supporting IT/network operations (a plus).
  • Experience with Fortinet, F5, or other proxy/firewall technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or related field (preferred, required for conversion).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform firewall and web proxy configuration, administration, and change management during the nightly change window.
  • Support post-change validation, troubleshooting, and issue remediation in collaboration with application and engineering teams.
  • Manage and resolve network incidents and change tickets using ServiceNow.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation (once every ~11 weeks as primary, with a secondary rotation the prior week).
  • Work on policy migration projects related to proxy and firewall consolidation with Client environments.
  • Perform root cause analysis and ensure timely restoration of network services when issues arise.
  • Contribute to automation and process improvements for network operations tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, engineering teams, and leadership - primarily through written channels.
  • Participate in periodic team on-sites or vendor events (travel ~2 times per year)

  • Exposure to Client, Client, or other financial enterprise network environments.

Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset - able to stay calm under pressure.
  • Excellent communicator (both written and verbal).
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative - able to work independently during off-hours.
  • Demonstrates initiative and eagerness to learn advanced security technologies.

Additional Information:
  • On-Call Schedule: Rotational (once every 11 weeks as primary).
  • Team Setup: Remote team (currently 12 members, most based on the West Coast).
  • Interview Process: Single-round Client Teams interview (60 minutes) with the hiring manager and two technical team members.
  • Conversion Eligibility: Yes - 6-month contract-to-hire (conversion dependent on performance and internal HR timelines).
