Each day, our professionals provide exceptional service, helping clients with advice and insight they can trust. In turn, we offer an award-winning environment that fosters apeople-first culturewith a high priority on your personal and professional growth.

Your Opportunity

BDO Canada's Google Cloud Advisory Practice is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer - Google Firebase to help clients design, build, modernize, and scale cloud-native applications on Google Cloud Platform.

Working alongside architects, managers, and client stakeholders, you will support an enterprise Firebase platform enablement initiative in Google public cloud. This is platform engineering work for a regulated banking environment, not single-application DevOps. In this role, you will help build reusable Firebase onboarding, automation, security, CI/CD, and Day 2 operating capabilities that can be consumed by multiple mobile application teams. We're looking for hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, cloud platform automation, CI/CD pipelines, and operational runbooks in an enterprise governance environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and maintain Terraform modules for Firebase platform capabilities, including Firebase Cloud Messaging, Remote Config, Crashlytics, Analytics, marketing integrations, and API key management.

  • Implement reusable onboarding patterns, templates, and checklists for mobile application teams consuming Firebase services.

  • Configure and promote Firebase platform modules through DEV, staging, and production environments using approved CI/CD and change-management processes.

  • Integrate Firebase services with enterprise cloud services, Google services, messaging/event platforms, Google Maps, Play Integrity, and related platform dependencies.

  • Support secure Firebase project and environment setup, including naming conventions, IAM/security configuration, API key scoping, usage restrictions, coexistence, and rotation.

  • Build and maintain pipeline automation, module release processes, validation steps, smoke testing, and QA support for Firebase platform components.

  • Define and document Day 2 operational processes, including monitoring, alerting, usage/quota tracking, error handling, SDK upgrade processes, support/intake models, and operational runbooks.

  • Support knowledge transfer to engineering and operations teams, including documentation walkthroughs and enablement sessions.

  • Maintain detailed technical documentation, implementation notes, ticket updates, and deployment evidence for visibility and auditability.

  • Operate within enterprise security, IAM, networking, governance, and change-management standards for a regulated banking environment.

How do we define success for your role?

  • You demonstrate BDO's core values through all aspects of your work: Integrity, Respect and Collaboration

  • You understand your client's industry, challenges, and opportunities; clients describe you as positive, professional, and delivering high-quality work

  • You identify, recommend, and are focused on effective service delivery to your clients

  • You share in an inclusive and engaging work environment that develops, retains and attracts talent

  • You actively participate in the adoption of digital tools and strategies to drive an innovative workplace

  • You grow your expertise through learning and professional development.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of experience in software development, cloud consulting, application architecture, or cloud engineering.

  • Experience designing and implementing solutions on Google Cloud Platform.

  • Experience building shared platform services, onboarding templates, and repeatable patterns for multiple application teams.

  • Strong Infrastructure-as-Code discipline, including modular Terraform design, versioning, release controls, and environment promotion.

  • Enterprise CI/CD delivery experience, including gated deployments, validation workflows, artifact/module release processes, and deployment evidence.

  • Experience working within formal change-management and ITSM processes, including controlled promotion to staging and production environments.

  • Security-first engineering mindset, including IAM, API key controls, usage restrictions, vulnerability considerations, and audit-ready documentation.

  • Familiarity with enterprise cloud governance, naming conventions, environment structures, access controls, and standard operating procedures.

  • Ability to work with architecture, security, networking, mobile engineering, marketing/product, and operations stakeholders.

  • Experience designing or supporting Day 2 operations, including support models, intake processes, runbooks, monitoring, alerts, and recurring maintenance activities.

  • Comfort working in regulated environments where documentation, traceability, approvals, and operational handoff are essential.

  • Ability to explain technical decisions clearly and support review by client architects, cloud governance teams, and operational stakeholders.

  • Strong written communication, including detailed implementation notes, module documentation, planning artifacts, and ticket-level updates.

  • Ability to stabilize Terraform modules and operational processes after initial DEV delivery and before staging/production promotion.

This opportunity requires strong hands-on experience with:

  • Terraform - hands-on module development and Infrastructure-as-Code implementation for cloud services.

  • Google Cloud Platform and Firebase - Firebase project setup, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Remote Config, Crashlytics, Analytics, GA4, Google Ads integration, and related Google services.

  • CI/CD pipeline experience, including module promotion, release automation, and environment deployment workflows.

  • API key management and secrets/security controls, including scoped keys, usage restrictions, coexistence planning, and rotation processes.

  • IAM/security configuration for cloud services, including least privilege, service accounts, access controls, and alignment with enterprise standards.

  • YAML and pipeline configuration for automated deployment and validation workflows.

  • Scripting/automation experience, preferably Python or equivalent, to supplement Terraform and CI/CD automation.

  • Observability and operations experience, including monitoring usage, quotas, error rates, alerting, and operational dashboards or reporting inputs.

  • Working knowledge of mobile platform integrations, messaging patterns, and app configuration lifecycle management.

  • Documentation skills for Terraform modules, runbooks, onboarding guides, deployment steps, and knowledge transfer materials

Nice-to-Have:

  • Prior banking, financial-services, or other regulated-industry experience.

  • Prior Firebase implementation experience at enterprise scale.

  • Google Cloud certification or demonstrated formal GCP/Firebase platform experience.

  • Experience with mobile app platform services, push notification platforms, remote configuration, crash reporting, or analytics/marketing technology integrations.

  • Experience integrating cloud services with enterprise messaging/event platforms such as Kafka.

  • Experience with Play Integrity, Google Maps integrations, GA4, Google Ads, or consent/privacy guardrails.

  • Experience supporting operational handoff to production support teams, including runbooks, knowledge transfer, and support/intake model design.

The expected range of compensation for this role is $84,000 - $128,000 annually.
