Job description

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with Networking expertise  to join our Infrastructure team, where you will  work with hardware and networking across our data centers, offices, and the cloud to build and maintain critical financial systems.

Wealthfront’s Infrastructure team is a team of “Generalists with Expertise” who adhere to the principles of infrastructure-as-code and automation. We operate both physical servers and cloud-based computing, and our network spans both environments.  

About The Role

As a member of the Networking team, you  will play a key role in shaping future network architecture. You operate comfortably across hardware and software boundaries, writing code to automate infrastructure and bringing strategic expertise to designing, implementing, and maintaining systems. You approach Networking problems with a bias towards vendor-agnostic IaC solutions.  


As a key member of the Infrastructure team, you will:
  • Manage our networking and server hardware, topology, and connectivity in our physical data centers and cloud 

  • Design and build network telemetry, monitoring, and observability

  • Build and maintain an automated change management pipeline to deploy network configuration revisions and provision hardware 

  • Ensure critical services operate reliably by triaging and fixing operational issues as an on-call engineer, participating in post-mortems and implementing improvements to prevent future issues

  • Make and collaborate on key decisions regarding the evolution of our infrastructure, such as our hybrid cloud architecture

  • Be  responsible for liaising with third parties, vendors and internet service providers as well as traveling to our Bay Area and New Jersey data centers and offices for onsite networking projects

This role could be a fit if you have:
  • Proficiency with automation technology including Terraform, Ansible, and Chef

  • Proficiency with at least one language such as Go, Python, or Ruby and configuration management tools such as Git

  • Demonstrated experience with Linux systems

  • Experience with automating production data center environments, including hardware provisioning, network device configuration, and capacity planning

  • Proficiency with Networking protocols such as BGP, MLAG, VLANs, DNS

  • Excellent communications and organizational skills

  • BS or MS in Engineering or Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience

Strong candidate may also have:
  • Experience with routing and switching in data centers

  • Familiarity with Palo Alto Networks Firewalls, Juniper switches

  • Background on VPN technologies, like OpenVPN, IPSec, TLS

  • Experience with AWS Networking technologies  like Direct Connect, NACLs, Security Groups, VPC, etc
