What is remote music editing?

Remote music editing is the process of modifying, arranging, or enhancing audio tracks from a distance, often using cloud-based software and digital collaboration tools. Editors work with musicians, producers, and other stakeholders to cut, mix, and refine music files without being physically present in a studio. This allows for greater flexibility and can connect professionals from around the world, making music production more accessible and efficient. Remote music editors need strong technical skills in audio editing software and effective communication to ensure the final product meets client expectations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote music editor, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Music Editor, you need a solid understanding of music theory, audio editing techniques, and experience with digital audio workstations (DAWs), often backed by a degree in music production or related fields. Mastery of industry-standard software such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live, along with knowledge of plugins and file management systems, is typically required. Strong attention to detail, creativity, time management, and effective remote communication set top performers apart. These skills ensure high-quality, polished audio content delivered efficiently, meeting client needs and tight deadlines in a remote environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote music editors and how can they be managed?

Remote music editors often face challenges related to communication and collaboration, since they work with artists, producers, and other team members who may be in different locations and time zones. To manage this, it's essential to use reliable project management tools, maintain clear and regular communication, and establish well-defined deadlines. Additionally, ensuring access to high-quality audio equipment and a stable internet connection can help maintain professional standards. Proactively seeking feedback and staying organized can also help remote music editors deliver consistent, high-quality results.

Video Editor

Superpower

San Francisco, CA โ€ข Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 19 days ago

Job description

We're looking for high-velocity, high-craft remote video editors who want the best brief flow, the best creative team, and the best brand on their reel.

You'll ship 8–12 cuts per week, work async with the U.S. team, and operate on a clear weekly cadence.

About the Role

You'll own paid social video editing for Superpower as part of a 2–3 person remote edit team. You'll inherit a working asset library, a strategist who briefs with hypothesis-tied briefs, and a producer who runs QA. Your job is to ship cuts faster than the strategist can brief.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cut Production: Ship 8–12 cuts per week (UGC reformats, hook variants, paid social cuts, podcast clips, founder-led content); move briefs to v1 in under 48 hours; hit 80%+ pass rate on producer v1 review

  • Brief Execution: Cut to the brief — hook, hold, payoff, CTA, music, pacing. Execute, don't improvise.

  • Repurposing: Turn one UGC submission into 8–12 cuts with different hooks, music, and angles

  • Asset Library: Keep assets tagged, organized, and retrievable — next editor finds anything in 60 seconds

  • Self-QA: Audio levels, color, pacing, captions, safe zones — don't ship anything that needs basic fixes

  • Async Communication: Loom walkthroughs, written notes, clear timestamps in feedback threads — time zone is invisible because of how you work

Qualifications
  • Experience:

    • 4+ years editing paid social or short-form video, with at least 2 for a DTC brand or paid social-heavy creator

    • Reel includes paid social cuts with documented performance — winners that scaled

    • Proven async track record with U.S. teams

  • Skills:

    • Premiere or Final Cut at expert level; After Effects at intermediate or better

    • Execute a brief without multiple rounds of clarification

    • Self-QA so the producer doesn't have to redo your work

  • Mindset:

    • Craft-first, remote by choice — not the other way around

    • Brief in Frame.io today, v1 in Frame.io tomorrow
