Job description

Amentum is seeking a Technical Editor (Mid-Level) to support the Defense Intelligence Agency's Defense Intelligence Enterprise.
In the Intelligence Community, how something is written can matter as much as what it says. A muddled assessment gets ignored; a mismarked one causes real damage. As a Technical Editor supporting DIA, you'll be the last line of quality for intelligence products, sharpening logic and clarity, enforcing agency style and classification standards, and working shoulder to shoulder with analysts to make their strongest possible case on the page. This position is contingent upon award of contract, business needs, security clearance verification, and funding availability.

Work Schedule: (shift hours and days of the week)
5 days, 8 hours/day M-F

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Review intelligence products for proper grammar, punctuation, and syntax, and, more importantly, for logic, clarity, and consistency
  • Ensure style and format conform to agency publication standards, prescribed style guides, and the specialized vocabulary of the subject matter
  • Amend draft tables, tone boxes, and graphics so visual content supports and stays consistent with the accompanying text
  • Ensure proper classification markings in accordance with IC guidance on every product
  • Work directly with authors to revise products for narrative organization, and negotiate further revisions as needed

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • 8+ years of relevant editing experience, with recent experience within the last 2 years
  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field
  • Command of IC and DoD classification marking guidance
  • The diplomacy to tell an analyst their draft needs work, and the skill to help them fix it

Security Clearance Required:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field

Minimum Years of Experience:

  • 8+ years of relevant editing experience, with recent experience within the last 2 years

Preferred Qualifications: AI if applicable to your program
Prior DIA or IC editorial experience
Familiarity with DIA style and finished intelligence production
Experience editing graphics-heavy or data-rich products

Quality - Quality is the foundation for the management of our business and the keystone to our goal of customer satisfaction. It is our policy to consistently provide services that meet customer expectations. Accordingly, each employee must conform to the Amentum Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts. Each employee must read and understand his/her Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities.

Procedure Compliance - Each employee must read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or protected veteran status.
