Job description

Overview

Responsibilities
As an Unattended Ground Sensors (UGS) Specialist with AMERICAN SYSTEMS you will have the opportunity to do the following:
  • Maintain currency on the types and abilities of sensors in support of border security operations.
  • Assist with the inventory and maintenance of unattended ground sensors (UGS) and related systems in various terrains and conditions.
  • Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance, including alignment, inspection, and testing of sensors.
  • Provide technical assistance during the operation of UGS.
  • Provide technical support and training to team members on UGS operations and maintenance.
  • Diagnose and isolate malfunctions, remove and replace hardware LRUs (lowest replaceable units), perform corrective measures on software, and verify that malfunctions have been corrected.
  • Use proper safety procedures in systems maintenance and operation.
  • Ensure all activities comply with safety protocols and operational guidelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of sensor deployments, maintenance activities, and system performance.
  • Compile data for reports and assist in maintaining accountability of all system parts, including software and spare parts.
  • Maintain diagnostic and operational tools, support, and test equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and execute sensor deployment missions.
  • Coordinate with specific CBP offices and DHS officials to ensure alignment with operational objectives, collect operational feedback, and document requirements; ensure appropriate informational collaboration and reporting.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new UGS technologies and strategies.
  • Assist with other USG duties in collaboration with USBP personnel.

Qualifications
  • Active CBP BI or TOP SECRET clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance
  • Associate's degree in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field or equivalent military or law enforcement training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with unattended ground sensors (UGS) or similar technologies.
  • Technical knowledge of various types of UGS (seismic, acoustic, infrared, magnetic, and microwave sensors). Understanding of individual components of UGS systems (power supplies, communication modules, and sensor elements). Proficiency in sensor collection, processing, and data transmission.
  • Understanding of wireless communication, encryption and security, and AI with Image Recognition.
  • Knowledge of best practices for sensor emplacement, site selection, and concealment.
  • Skills in signal processing, anomaly detection, and using software tools for data visualization.
  • Knowledge of integrating UGS with other security systems to ensure interoperability.
  • Understanding of the geographical and environmental conditions in deployment areas and techniques for adapting to these conditions.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing UGS use and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to work in challenging and remote environments, including rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions.
  • Physical endurance to perform tasks that may involve lifting, carrying, and transporting equipment over long distances.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and be deployed for extended periods.
  • Capacity to perform physically demanding tasks while maintaining high levels of focus and accuracy.
