What is a remote museum buyer?

Remote museum buyers are professionals who source, evaluate, and acquire artworks or artifacts for museums while working off-site rather than from the museum location. They collaborate with curators, galleries, artists, and auction houses to identify pieces that fit the museum’s collection goals and budget. These buyers use digital tools and virtual communications to negotiate purchases, authenticate items, and arrange for shipping or temporary loans. Their role is crucial in expanding and diversifying museum collections, especially in a globalized art market. The position requires expertise in art history, market trends, and logistics, as well as strong negotiation and research skills.
