The Remote Modeling Simulation Engineer focuses on creating and running simulations to predict system behaviors, often in engineering or manufacturing contexts. In contrast, the Remote Data Analyst interprets data to inform business decisions across various industries. While both roles require analytical skills and technical knowledge, their tools, applications, and industry focus differ significantly.

How does a Remote Modeling Simulation Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working remotely?

Remote Modeling Simulation Engineers frequently work with multidisciplinary teams, including software developers, project managers, and subject matter experts. Collaboration is typically facilitated through virtual meetings, shared simulation platforms, and cloud-based project management tools. Regular communication and thorough documentation are essential to ensure alignment on project goals and simulation requirements. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires proactive engagement to stay connected and effectively contribute to team-driven problem solving.

What are Remote Modeling Simulation Engineers?

Remote Modeling Simulation Engineers are professionals who use computer-based models and simulations to analyze, design, and optimize systems or products, often working from a location outside of a traditional office. They leverage specialized software to create virtual prototypes and run simulations, which helps in testing and improving designs without the need for physical experiments. These engineers collaborate with teams online, and their work is crucial in industries such as aerospace, automotive, energy, and manufacturing. Their remote setup allows companies to tap into a wider talent pool and offers professionals greater flexibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Modeling Simulation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Modeling Simulation Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering or computer science, strong mathematical modeling skills, and experience with simulation methodologies. Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, Simulink, Python, and simulation software, along with relevant certifications such as Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), is often required. Exceptional problem-solving, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial soft skills, especially when collaborating remotely with diverse teams. These skills ensure accurate model development, effective virtual teamwork, and the delivery of reliable simulation results for complex engineering challenges.

Job description

Principal Engineer, RFIC Design:

In this role, you will be partnering with a team of cross functional engineers to develop novel SoC products for connectivity and communications. This position has high visibility and impact on the success of the project and may also oversee a team of RFIC design engineers.

This role offers flexibility with multiple office locations in California and a hybrid remote/office work environment, creating a balanced workplace for a results-oriented individual committed to continuous improvement, learning, and collaboration. The position can be based either in San Diego (preferred) or San Jose.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership and hands-on contributions on all aspects of the design of high-performance custom RF, analog, and mixed signal IPs.
  • Supervising layout activities and performing post-layout LPE simulations and analysis.
  • Working closely with RF, analog, digital, test, and firmware design engineers.
  • Presenting to peers and management.
  • Working with the System Engineers to derive block level specifications based on target product requirements.
  • Run behavioral model simulations to study system performance and drive block-level specifications (Matlab, VerilogA).
  • Partnering with the System and Digital Engineers to design and validate methods and algorithms to alleviate circuit impairments by calibration, compensation, pre-distortion, and various other techniques.
  • Assisting Test Engineers on the design of comprehensive test plan, including defining, developing, and ramping up production ATE solutions.
  • Participating in post-silicon bring-up, detailed performance characterization, optimization, and debug including the use of lab instruments.

Job Requirements:

  • MSEE minimum, PhD preferred.
  • 12+ years of hands-on experience in high-performance RF, Analog, and Mixed Signal IC design in advanced CMOS processes.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of RF CMOS fundamentals and implementation of RX and TX RF/Analog front-end for modern advanced wireless radios.
  • Hands-on experience in transistor-level design of radio RF front-end related circuits, such as, but not limited to: LNA, PA, Mixers, Filters, Amplifiers, LO and clock routings, Opamps, Bias, etc.
  • Good understanding of optimization for power consumption, NF, SNR, PN/jitter, matching, area, etc.
  • Familiarity with RF device modeling, including inductor EM simulation, packaging effects, ESD structures, and supply isolation.
  • Good familiarity with IC layout, full IC design flow and verification.
  • Strong intuitive, analytical, and problem-solving skills, strong initiative, attention-to-detail, highly organized, and personal commitment to quality
  • Familiar with using various development tools: Cadence Virtuoso suite, EMX, Calibre, PVS, Matlab, MS Office, etc.
