Summary
You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Metrology Engineering Section (Code 137.3) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Help
  • You will utilize ingenuity and creative thinking in devising new ways to accomplish objectives.
  • You will interface with the customer to resolve unique operational deficiencies and advise the customer on proper equipment selection and operation.
  • You will provide assistance to the engineers in the laboratory in determining which references to use in cases where specified equipment documentation is unclear or incomplete.
  • You will perform mathematical computations necessary to produce the test data.
  • You will prepare the laboratory reports and associated graphs and charts.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience applying ingenuity and creative problem-solving techniques to develop and implement new or improved solutions to achieve objectives.
  • Experience Interfacing with customers to identify, analyze, and resolve unique operational deficiencies.
  • Experience providing assistance to engineers within the laboratory by evaluating unclear, incomplete, or conflicting documentation and determining appropriate references to ensure accurate testing.
  • Experience performing mathematical computations and technical calculations required to generate, validate, and analyze test data, ensuring accurate results.
  • Experience preparing reports and certificates of calibration in accordance with standards.
  • Experience communicating technical information both orally and in writing with supervisors, engineers, technicians, and with customers to resolve issues.
