How much do remote metal casting jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for remote metal casting in the United States is $21.98, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.83 and $25.96 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is remote metal casting?

Remote metal casting is a process where the design, management, or monitoring of metal casting operations is performed from a distance, often using digital tools and online collaboration. While the physical casting happens at a foundry, engineers, designers, or project managers can work remotely by sending digital designs, overseeing quality control, and communicating with on-site teams. This approach increases efficiency, reduces travel, and allows experts to be involved in multiple projects regardless of their physical location. Remote metal casting is increasingly popular as technology enables real-time collaboration and monitoring.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote metal casting technician?

To thrive as a Remote Metal Casting Technician, you need a solid understanding of metallurgy, casting techniques, and quality control, often supported by technical certifications or vocational training. Familiarity with CAD software, virtual casting simulation tools, and remote monitoring systems is commonly required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with distributed teams and ensuring production standards. These competencies are important for producing high-quality metal castings efficiently while addressing challenges inherent to remote operations.

What are typical challenges faced in a remote metal casting role, and how can they be addressed?

In a remote metal casting role, one common challenge is ensuring clear communication with on-site teams regarding casting specifications, quality standards, and production timelines. Collaboration often relies on digital tools, so it's important to be proficient with CAD software, virtual meeting platforms, and file-sharing systems. Additionally, remote workers may face difficulties in troubleshooting casting defects without direct access to physical samples, making detailed documentation and regular video check-ins essential. Building strong relationships with on-site technicians and maintaining organized digital records can help overcome these challenges.

What is the difference between Remote Metal Casting vs Remote Welding?

AspectRemote Metal CastingRemote Welding
Required CredentialsMetalworking certifications, technical trainingWelding certifications, technical training
Work EnvironmentFoundries, casting facilities, or remote design workConstruction sites, manufacturing plants, or remote design work
Industry UsageManufacturing, art, industrial partsConstruction, manufacturing, repair services
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

Remote Metal Casting and Remote Welding share similarities in technical skills and certifications, often involving specialized training. While metal casting focuses on creating parts through pouring molten metal into molds, welding involves joining metal pieces together. Both roles can be performed remotely in design or supervision capacities, but typically differ in work environment and industry applications.

Job Title: Autodesk Inventor Specialist

Job Type: Contractor
Location: Remote

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Autodesk Inventor Specialists to contribute their expertise to an innovative project at the intersection of mechanical engineering and emerging AI technology. In this role, you will help improve next-generation AI systems by creating, reviewing, and refining mechanical CAD models and technical documentation. No prior AI experience is required—your engineering and CAD expertise are what matter most.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop fully parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor (or comparable CAD platforms) based on detailed design requirements.

  • Modify and update existing CAD models while maintaining parametric integrity and industry best practices.

  • Review and audit CAD models for dimensional accuracy, GD&T compliance, manufacturability, and design quality.

  • Create, interpret, and validate detailed engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (or equivalent) GD&T standards.

  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles across manufacturing processes including injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and casting.

  • Support AI model development by documenting design decisions, engineering rationale, model revisions, and audit findings.

  • Collaborate remotely with cross-functional teams and provide clear, technical feedback to improve engineering datasets and AI-generated outputs.

Required Skills
  • Autodesk Inventor.

  • Parametric 3D CAD modeling.

  • GD&T (ASME Y14.5).

  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

  • Technical drawing interpretation.

  • Assembly-level mechanical design.

  • Reverse engineering (Scan-to-CAD, Point Cloud-to-Model).

  • Manufacturing process knowledge (Injection Molding, Sheet Metal, CNC Machining, Casting).

  • CAD model auditing.

  • CAD automation and scripting (Python, iLogic, VBA, NX Open).

  • Technical documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in parametric CAD modeling for edit-level tasks; 10+ years preferred for complex design and model creation.

  • Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, with experience in comparable CAD platforms such as FreeCAD, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360 considered highly valuable.

  • Practical experience applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5 or equivalent) in production environments.

  • Proven Design for Manufacturability (DFM) experience across multiple manufacturing processes, including injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting.

  • Experience with reverse engineering workflows such as Scan-to-CAD and Point Cloud-to-Model reconstruction.

  • Ability to design and manage complex assemblies and mechanical systems.

  • Experience with CAD automation, scripting, or API development using Python, iLogic, VBA, NX Open, or similar technologies.
