What is a Remote MERN Stack Developer?

A Remote MERN Stack Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building web applications using the MERN stack—MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js—while working remotely. They handle both frontend and backend development, integrating databases, server-side logic, and user interfaces. By working remotely, they collaborate with teams and clients through digital communication tools, enabling companies to access talent from any location. The MERN stack is popular for creating fast, scalable, and modern web applications, making this role highly sought after in the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote MERN Stack Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote MERN Stack Developer, you need expertise in JavaScript, MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js, and a solid understanding of full-stack web development principles, usually demonstrated through a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Heroku), and continuous integration tools is typically expected, and certifications in JavaScript or cloud services can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate virtually set standout candidates apart. These skills ensure you can build robust, scalable applications while working independently and effectively within distributed teams.

How do Remote MERN Stack Developers typically collaborate with team members across different time zones?

Remote MERN Stack Developers often work with globally distributed teams, which requires clear communication and effective collaboration tools. They commonly use project management platforms, version control systems, and chat applications to coordinate tasks and track progress. Regular stand-up meetings are scheduled to accommodate overlapping time zones, and thorough documentation ensures everyone stays aligned. This structure allows developers to be productive and responsive, even when working asynchronously.

Job description

Description
We are seeking a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to design, build, and operate full-stack cloud infrastructure on AWS. This role is responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and highly available cloud environments across networking, compute, storage, and platform services.

This is a hands-on engineering role that combines deep technical execution with architectural collaboration, requiring strong experience in AWS, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and cloud-native design patterns. The ideal candidate will also provide technical leadership to junior engineers while partnering closely with centralized architecture teams.

Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure Engineering
  • Design, build, and maintain end-to-end AWS infrastructure including:
  • Networking (VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups)
  • Compute (EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, container platforms)
  • Storage (S3, EBS, RDS, and related services)
  • Build scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient cloud environments aligned with enterprise standards
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred, CloudFormation, or similar)
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for infrastructure and applications
Architecture & Design
  • Translate business and application requirements into AWS-based solutions and technical designs
  • Collaborate with centralized AWS architects to align implementation with enterprise architecture standards
  • Contribute to design reviews, architecture decisions, and continuous improvement of cloud patterns
  • Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and performance standards
  • Collaborate across departments with Application Development leadership to align on and design infrastructure solutions
Operations & Reliability
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize AWS environments for performance, availability, and cost efficiency
  • Implement best practices for logging, monitoring, and alerting (e.g., CloudWatch)
  • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Lead implementation efforts and drive engineering best practices
  • Collaborate with DevOps Platform team, security, and application teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Act as a senior engineering voice in technical discussions and decision-making
On-Call & Support
  • Participate in a rotational on-call schedule, including after-hours and weekend support
  • Respond to and resolve production incidents as part of operational responsibilities

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on AWS engineering experience (mid-to-senior level)
  • Proven experience designing and implementing AWS infrastructure across:
  • Networking, compute, and storage layers
  • Strong expertise with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (Terraform)
  • Deep knowledge of AWS core services (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, IAM) and platform services
  • Experience with Elastic Beanstalk and application deployment patterns
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture, security, and scalability
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS)
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling and DevOps practices
  • Familiarity with cost optimization (FinOps) practices
  • Background in hybrid cloud or migration initiatives
  • PCI, SOC and SOX experience
  • Experience with on prem Windows infrastructure is a plus
Technical Skills
  • AWS Services: EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, RDS, Elastic Beanstalk
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation
  • Scripting: Python, Bash, or similar
  • CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline
  • Monitoring: CloudWatch and logging tools
  • New Relic: Experience with New Relic is a plus

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable solutions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead junior engineers
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Full-time role (remote/hybrid depending on team needs)
  • Participation in on-call rotation including evenings and weekends
  • Fast-paced, collaborative cloud engineering environment
This role is ideal for a hands-on, senior-level AWS engineer who:
  • Owns infrastructure end-to-end (network compute storage)
  • Balances execution with architecture alignment
  • Leads others while still building
  • Thrives in an operationally critical, production-facing environment
