 Job Summary

The Clinical Support Specialist I will work on projects and initiatives with Kettering Health Medical Group, Community Connect, additional Epic teams, and other stakeholders within and outside the Kettering Health System. This position combines clinical experience with an understanding of health informatics and electronic health records (EHR). The Clinical Support Specialist I provides support to providers and clinicians.

             

Job Requirements

Education

·         A high school diploma or completion of an equivalent high school exam is required.

·         An associate degree is preferred.

 

Work Experience

·         Experience working in a physician practice or similar healthcare environment preferred.

·         Experience using an EHR preferred.

·         Familiarity with clinical workflows and healthcare terminology.

·         Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

·         Proficiency in relevant software applications and data analysis tools.

·         Experience in training and educating healthcare professionals.

·         0-2 years of experience in support, Informatics, etc.

 

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations

·         Epic for the Clinical Informaticist certification, accredited, or proficiency required within 1 year of employment.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities:

1. Health Informatics Integration:

- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and IT specialists to integrate health informatics solutions into clinical practice.

- Ensure the effective implementation and utilization of electronic health records (EHRs), computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems, clinical decision-support tools, and other relevant technologies.

- Works with Operational Excellence to communicate project schedules and timelines to practices (Implementation process) assisted by Clinical Support Specialist II or SR.

- Ability to prioritize work and multi-task effectively.

2. Workflow Analysis and Optimization:

- Evaluate and troubleshoot existing clinical workflows and identify areas for improvement.

- Streamline processes by leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and increase patient safety.

- Propose and implement workflow modifications, training programs, protocols, technology tools, and innovative ideas to support optimized operations.

- Knowledge of hospital/clinical business processes in assigned area/department.

3. Data Analysis and Reporting:

- Extract and analyze clinical data from electronic health records and other healthcare information systems.

- Identify patterns, trends, and insights to support evidence-based decision-making and quality improvement initiatives.

- Generate regular reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders.

- Consistently utilizes critical thinking and analytic abilities in seeking and resolving issues.

4. Training and Education:

- Develop and deliver standardized training programs and materials to healthcare professionals effectively using health informatics tools and systems.

- Educate physicians, nurses, and other staff members on relevant regulations, policies, and best practices related to healthcare technology and data privacy.

- Support and document training in Epic (Signal) or Kettering Health's ticketing system.

- Support a seamless transition of practice applications and office processes to Epic.

- Provide at-the-elbow support during and after Epic implementation.

5. Collaboration and Consultation:

- Serve as a resource and consultant to clinical teams, offering health informatics and data management expertise.

- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal utilization of technology for patient care.

- Guide clinical documentation, coding, and billing practices that are compliant with industry standards.

- Receive and resolve clinical application issues through Kettering Health’s ticketing system involving prioritizing incoming issues according to guest impact, patient safety, financial impact, and project timelines.

- Serves as the primary point of contact on Epic implementation and optimization, assisted by Clinical Support Specialist II or SR.

- Primary point of contact for Electronic Medical Records IS-related issues to the physician practices.

- Provides on-site training and/or support for physicians, providers, clinicians, and staff by traveling to provider offices, hospitals, hospital clinics, community health centers, and various other locations.

- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, which may include traveling to various locations.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Customer focus.

6. Quality Assurance and Compliance:

- Monitor adherence to regulatory requirements, data privacy standards, and meaningful use criteria.

- Works with Operational Excellence and other teams on projects, initiatives, and quality measures.
