Position Title: Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer/Specialist
Position Location: Remote - work from anywhere in the United States. Must be located near a major airport.
Travel Requirements: Up to 75% domestic travel; relocation may be considered for long-term project needs. Must have valid driver's license and ability to rent vehicles.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer/Specialist provides technical and project leadership to plan, schedule, and execute full life cycle commissioning of critical facilities. This role supports MEP design reviews and leads functional testing of complex electrical systems.
They collaborate with engineers, contractors, vendors, and client teams to test, validate, and operate new and existing electrical systems in mission-critical environments. The professional works independently, leads project teams on complex initiatives, coordinates cross-functional activities, and contributes to policy and procedure development.
The Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer/Specialist will receive limited direction on day-to-day work and general instruction on new projects or assignments. Will execute commissioning and assist project leadership on projects of complex scope. Will work independently or under limited supervision.
This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage Commissioning Projects (50%)
  • Develop project proposals, including scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Lead and manage multiple project teams to ensure timely and effective delivery.
  • Identify risks and support development of mitigation strategies to control costs and schedule deviations.
  • Manage project scope to meet contractual and budget requirements.

Manage Stakeholder Relations (20%)
  • Ensure projects align with company policies, standards, and client value expectations.
  • Serve as primary client contact and, when applicable, act as Client Program Manager with business development responsibilities.
  • Support research for technical papers and industry presentations.

Organizational Development and Continuous Improvement of Policies and Procedures (20%)
  • Mentor team members and support training, development, and standards creation.
  • Contribute to organizational planning and may assist with hiring efforts.

Manage On-site High Profile or Escalated Commissioning Projects (10%)
  • Perform inspections, validation, testing, and verification of systems and methods.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • Must be able to obtain NFPA 70E / OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certifications as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline, or two years' experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure
  • Minimum of 13 years' additional experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure
  • Experience leading full life cycle commissioning of critical facilities, including MEP design reviews and functional testing of complex electrical systems
  • Experience leading project teams on complex initiatives and coordinating cross-functional activities
  • Experience serving as a primary client contact, including business development responsibilities as a Client Program Manager
  • Experience mentoring team members and contributing to training, standards, and policy/procedure development
