HARRIS MILLER MILLER & HANSON INC.

$55K - $175K/yr

Full-time

Job description

Harris Miller Miller & Hanson Inc. (HMMH) is a nationally recognized leader in environmental and technical consulting for infrastructure projects. Since 1981, we have supported federal agencies and their contractors in managing environmental impacts across aviation, defense, energy, and other federally funded initiatives. We specialize in the study, assessment, and mitigation of noise and vibration, air quality, and sustainability impacts, providing our clients with innovative, scientifically grounded solutions.
We are seeking a technically focused, mid-level consultant to support and grow our air mobility systems portfolio, including advanced air mobility (AAM), urban air mobility (UAM), and uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), in our Federal Programs group. This position is ideal for a candidate with AAM, UAS, and/or UAM experience, a strong technical background in noise analysis, infrastructure planning, and/or community integration for air mobility systems and non-legacy air vehicles, and a passion for developing innovative, data-driven analytical solutions for advanced aviation systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical lead for technical and analytical project tasks, managing modeling and analysis efforts from scoping through completion and ensuring quality, budget, and schedule adherence.
  • Conduct noise modeling and analysis for AAM/UAM/UAS aircraft, air mobility systems, and non-legacy air vehicles, including alternative fuel vehicles (e.g., hybrid, electric, hydrogen), using tools such as AEDT, Advanced Acoustics Model, or other relevant acoustic simulation platforms.
  • Evaluate flight paths, operational data, and urban environments to assess and mitigate noise and other environmental impacts associated with air mobility systems and non-legacy air vehicles for both commercial and military activities.
  • Support technical planning and integration of advanced aviation systems into existing and future civilian and military networks. Contribute to the development of land use compatibility strategies, sitings, and environmental review processes for air mobility and next generation aviation systems.
  • Manage, analyze, and interpret large environmental datasets (e.g., radar flight tracks, operations data), applying GIS and statistical techniques to generate actionable insights.
  • Contribute to proposal development, including scope definition, pricing, teaming, and technical approaches.
  • Represent HMMH in professional forums (panels, conference paper/presentation, articles, etc.) and actively contribute to advancing the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's in a technical field such as engineering, aviation, physics, environmental science, mathematics, or related discipline.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, including with AAM, UAM, UAS, uncrewed vehicles, non-legacy air vehicles, or similar, ideally in a consulting, research, or applied policy environment. A PhD may be substituted for a portion of years of experience.
  • Experience with and understanding of acoustic modeling tools and methodologies, including sound spheres, preferably in the context of assessing environmental noise impacts.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Advanced Acoustic Model, AEDT, NOISEMAP, MR_NMAP, ANOPP, or similar aircraft noise modeling software and a strong understanding of their application in noise/environmental studies relating to air mobility and next generation aviation systems.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex findings for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to contribute to and lead technical teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally (up to 25%) to attend client meetings, conduct fieldwork, participate in public workshops, or present at conferences.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without restriction.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with federal environmental compliance documentation, including relevant DoD documentation (e.g., DoDI, AFI, AFH) and NEPA, particularly those involving noise and vibration.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in Python, MATLAB, Excel, or similar tools.
  • Experience managing technical tasks, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Prior experience managing environmental data and developing custom tools for analysis and QA/QC.
  • Active involvement in relevant industry associations or technical committees (e.g., AIAA SciTech, AIAA Aeroacoustics, InterNoise, Forum Acusticum, Acoustical Society of America).
  • Proficiency in GIS for spatial data analysis, visualization, and mapping.
  • Experience with federal contracting structures.
