Paralegal – Office of the General Counsel

Full-Time | Remote

(Open to candidates located in Central or Eastern Time Zones)

Fisher Phillips, a premier international labor and employment law firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Paralegal to support the Office of the General Counsel. In this essential role, you will contribute to the seamless operation of our services, providing crucial support to our department in delivering exceptional client service and maintaining our commitment to excellence.

Position Summary

The Paralegal for the Office of the General Counsel will manage the firm’s legal, ethical, and risk-management obligations. Working under the direction and supervision of OGC attorneys on a wide range of matters including professional responsibility, claims, circumstances, compliance, collections, and investigations. This position requires sound judgment, discretion, and a demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive matters in a professional law firm environment.

Key Responsibilities

The following reflects the primary responsibilities of this role and is not intended to serve as a comprehensive inventory of all duties.

  • Obtains, organizes, and manages legal documents and electronic data in support of firm matters, including identifying and preserving documents and information potentially relevant to ongoing or anticipated litigation or compliance matters.
  • Drafts for attorney review a variety of legal correspondence, communications, and discovery responses in support of the Firm’s litigation and compliance matters.
  • Conducts online research and utilizes the firm’s electronic resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Assists the OGC in monitoring and supporting the firm's collections efforts, coordinating with billing and finance teams, and liaising with collection counsel as directed.
  • Identifies, reviews, and prepares documents for internal and external production, including applying appropriate privilege designations, redactions, and confidentiality markings in accordance with firm policy and applicable professional responsibility rules.
  • Supports the preparation and coordination of compliance audits, surveys, due diligence requests, and certification requirements by ensuring accurate and responsive submissions within required timeframes.
  • Manages multiple concurrent assignments and deadlines with professionalism and sound judgment, proactively communicating with the OGC regarding priorities and capacity.
  • Serves as a reliable resource working collaboratively with colleagues across practice groups and administrative functions as needed.

Requirements

The Paralegal must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree and ABA-approved paralegal certificate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, accurate correspondence and internal memoranda.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), document management systems (e.g., iManage), conflicts-checking systems, and electronic discovery platforms.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and perform in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across a variety of state and federal jurisdictions.
  • High motivation, reliability, desire to learn, and strong teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively, autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and work well in a fast-paced environment.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of paralegal experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, experience supporting a law firm OGC, or risk-management/compliance functions strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience handling confidential and privileged matters with discretion.
  • Working knowledge of e-discovery practices.

Compensation

The hourly rate range for this position is $40.87 - $49.17 per hour. Actual base pay within this range will be determined by several components, including but not limited to, location, relevant experience, internal equity, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
