As commissioning agents, we are committed to making a direct and positive impact on the building science environment by providing building owners hands on verification services ensuring building systems perform as designed. Our commissioning agents, and project managers are also involved in project pursuits and business development. As a commissioning agent you will primarily lead third-party commissioning projects from start to finish.


SMRT's Commissioning Group has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Commissioning Agent. Depending on experience and location, the opportunity exists to work independently or remote from our Portland, ME, Andover, Massachusetts, or Schenectady, New York office locations. Candidates must live or be willing to be proximate to our offices listed here to be considered for this opportunity.


What our Commissioning Agents Do:

  • Act as a project manager for commissioning projects and have the ability to run multiple projects independently when assigned.
  • Work on assigned projects and define the schedule.
  • Knowledge and experience in working on projects within government, healthcare, clean manufacturing, laboratory, housing, and education.
  • Execution of standard building commissioning processes for new and existing construction as well as retro-commissioning as outlined in ASHRAE and ACG, BCxA, etc. guidelines.
  • Writes commissioning plans and specifications, based on established SMRT standards and project requirements.
  • Conducts third party design reviews on Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing drawings and specifications for project owners.
  • Conducts submittal reviews for systems to be commissioned.
  • Witnesses, directs, evaluates and documents field commissioning activities, (i.e. construction observations, start-up and close out verifications).
  • Conducts on-site meetings with construction team members. Writes and distributes minutes and establishes action items for each team member.
  • Conducts functional verification process for MEP/FP systems as appropriate for each project.
  • Writes and compiles commissioning reports and related documentation based on established SMRT standards.
  • Participates in marketing activities, including conference attendance, networking, presentations to prospective clients, and project interviews.

Requirements

Skills you need to be successful in this role:

  1. Experience in the operation and troubleshooting of HVAC systems, power, lighting, communications, fire, and energy management control systems and security systems.
  2. Understand commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning process.
  3. Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
  4. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, written and oral.
  5. Possess an understanding of the construction process, documentation, (drawings and specifications) codes and industry standards.
  6. Ability to self-lead with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, organization and prioritization.
  7. Ability to analyze data collected
  8. Familiarity with design, installation, planning and maintenance of systems
  9. Familiarity with tools and instruments used in the verification of systems functionality (air flow/pressure monitoring, thermal cameras, etc.)
  10. Travel to project sites within your area of operation.
