What is a remote manufacturing technical support specialist?

A Remote Manufacturing Technical Support specialist provides technical assistance and troubleshooting for manufacturing equipment and processes from a remote location. They help diagnose and resolve issues related to machinery, software, and production systems by communicating with on-site staff via phone, email, or video conferencing. Their goal is to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations by offering expert guidance without needing to be physically present at the manufacturing facility.

How does a remote manufacturing technical support professional effectively collaborate with on-site teams to resolve technical issues?

Remote Manufacturing Technical Support professionals work closely with on-site engineers, operators, and maintenance staff through various digital communication channels such as video calls, remote desktop access, and collaborative project management tools. Building strong relationships and maintaining clear, detailed documentation are essential for troubleshooting equipment or process issues from a distance. Frequent, proactive communication and a thorough understanding of plant systems enable remote support staff to guide on-site teams through diagnostics, repairs, and process optimizations efficiently. This collaboration ensures timely issue resolution and minimizes production downtime.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote manufacturing technical support specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Manufacturing Technical Support specialist, you need a solid background in manufacturing processes, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving, usually supported by an engineering degree or relevant technical certification. Familiarity with remote diagnostic tools, ERP/MES systems, and support ticketing platforms is commonly required. Strong communication, patience, and the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure efficient issue resolution, minimize production downtime, and maintain high customer satisfaction in a remote support environment.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Lead - Business Automation & AI Development based in Netherlands.

This role offers the opportunity to help build a new technology and automation practice focused on turning complex business processes into practical digital solutions.
You will operate at the intersection of business strategy, software architecture, automation, and AI-assisted development.
The position combines hands-on engineering with the architectural leadership needed to deliver secure, scalable, production-ready applications.
You will translate existing workflows and business requirements into custom applications that improve operations without requiring disruptive legacy system replacements.
Using AI-accelerated development approaches, you will help deliver solutions efficiently while applying strong technical judgment and engineering standards.
As the practice grows, you will have the opportunity to shape development standards, build a team, and mentor future engineers.
This is an ideal opportunity for an entrepreneurial technical leader who enjoys ambiguity, ownership, and solving real-world operational challenges.

Accountabilities
  • Design and oversee custom business applications, including CRM platforms, project management tools, data integration layers, and other operational software.
  • Translate complex business processes, existing documentation, video walkthroughs, and structured requirements into functional and scalable digital solutions.
  • Lead AI-assisted software development using platforms such as Replit Agent/Builder, ensuring generated solutions meet appropriate standards for architecture, security, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Apply sound architectural judgment to determine when AI-generated solutions require manual intervention, refinement, or redesign.
  • Design integration strategies and workflows that capture client requests, manage project lifecycles, and enable reliable data handoffs into existing legacy systems.
  • Develop solutions that improve operational efficiency while minimizing the need for disruptive replacements of established infrastructure.
  • Ensure deployed applications achieve strong availability, reliability, and performance through appropriate infrastructure management, monitoring, and quality assurance practices.
  • Establish technical and development best practices that support repeatable delivery as the automation practice scales.
  • Over time, identify, hire, mentor, and develop junior developers while building a high-performing team focused on AI-augmented software development.
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand operational challenges and translate them into commercially valuable technical solutions.
Requirements
  • Proven experience combining software engineering with business analysis, product management, or a similar business-facing technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI coding assistants or AI-powered development platforms such as Replit, Lovable, or comparable tools to rapidly deliver production-ready software.
  • Strong architectural judgment and the ability to evaluate, guide, and improve AI-generated code rather than relying solely on automated development.
  • Strong full-stack knowledge covering frontend and backend architectures, SQL and/or NoSQL databases, APIs, integrations, and application design.
  • Experience building or optimizing business applications such as CRM systems, project management platforms, internal operational tools, or workflow automation solutions.
  • Ability to design systems with a long-term perspective, ensuring solutions can scale from an individual client deployment to a much larger customer base.
  • Strong understanding of business processes and the ability to translate operational requirements into practical technology solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical execution and the needs of non-technical business stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial and self-directed mindset, with a strong sense of ownership and comfort working in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous or undefined problems, make sound strategic decisions, and operate effectively without a rigid playbook.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to work autonomously and deliver results with minimal supervision.
  • Leadership and mentorship potential, with the ability to establish standards and develop future engineering talent.
  • Experience in professional services, consulting, BPO, legacy system migration, remote team leadership, or startup environments is beneficial but not essential.
Benefits
  • Full-time remote engagement.
  • Flexible working hours with required overlap with US time zones when needed for client and project delivery.
  • Opportunity to play a foundational role in launching and shaping a new technology and automation practice.
  • Significant technical ownership across architecture, application development, automation, integrations, and platform reliability.
  • Opportunity to work with AI-accelerated development technologies and modern software engineering approaches.
  • Potential to build, hire, and mentor a development team as the practice grows.
  • Exposure to diverse business processes and operational challenges across multiple client environments.
  • Opportunity to create practical technology solutions that modernize workflows without requiring disruptive legacy system replacements.
  • Entrepreneurial environment with substantial autonomy and opportunities to influence technical standards and delivery practices.
  • Candidates are expected to provide their own laptop and basic equipment, maintain reliable connectivity, and work from a secure environment.
  • Compliance with required security controls, including two-factor authentication.
