Job Description

The Senior Quality Engineer writes automation scripts utilized in a CI/CD pipeline. They will work on dedicated product teams and are part of the engineering team made up of Software Engineers, Cloud Engineers and Quality Engineers. They work directly with scrum masters, product owners, and UX designers to give students and student mentors an excellent education experience. The Senior Quality Engineer builds and implements automated UI/API test validation and load tests as an essential part of that effort. Additionally, they will analyze failures and make recommendations in an objective, open-minded way.
At WGU, you will join a collaborative engineering team focused on delivering high-quality, scalable learning experiences for students. As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the quality, reliability, and performance of our products through modern test automation and continuous delivery practices.
What You'll Do
  • Build and implement automated UI, API, and performance tests within CI/CD pipelines
  • Perform functional, system, and integration testing for new and existing features
  • Partner with engineers, product owners, scrum masters, and UX designers to deliver high-quality products
  • Improve communication by serving as a liaison between development and test automation teams
  • Identify, track, and prioritize high-value defects and drive resolution
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and recommend improvements to prevent recurrence
  • Mentor team members and deliver QA training sessions to internal stakeholders
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 6 years of experience that includes the following: writing API (REST/SOAP) testing scripts, writing/maintaining UI or browser emulation scripts using Selenium, TestNG, or Protractor, Trailblazer using programming/scripting languages (Java, JavaScript, Bash, and Python), using load testing software like JMeter, using CI/CD orchestration systems (AWS CodeBuild/CodePipeline, Bamboo, and Jenkins), using Jira or Workfront, end-to-end automation testing, and conducting multiple QA training sessions and/or workshops at conferences, meet-up groups, or internally
  • Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and CI/CD practices
  • Experience with automation frameworks and programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript
