What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote managing director?

To thrive as a Remote Managing Director, you need extensive leadership experience, strategic planning abilities, and a proven track record in management, typically supported by an advanced degree such as an MBA. Familiarity with digital collaboration tools (like Slack, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams), project management platforms (such as Asana or Trello), and financial reporting systems is crucial. Exceptional communication, decision-making, and self-motivation are key soft skills for effectively leading dispersed teams and driving organizational goals. These competencies are vital to ensure effective remote leadership, maintain operational excellence, and achieve business objectives across distributed workforces.

What does a remote managing director do?

Job description

Director of Sales, Education

Ubique Group · Remote (US) · Full-time

Commercial Sales, Education Vertical

The Opportunity

Ubique Group is building one of the most exciting growth platforms in the K-12 and Early Education market, and we are looking for the leader who will make it happen.

As Director of Sales, Education, you will serve as the business leader and single point of accountability for Ubique\'s Education vertical across all routes to market: Commercial Account Management, Direct-to-Customer, Inside Sales, Business Development, and eCommerce. This is a full P&L leadership role with a clear mandate to grow the Education business through Flash Furniture and Bright Beginnings.

This is not an account management role. It is a general management opportunity. You will set the vertical strategy, align the channels, build new routes to market, and personally drive the relationships and deals that matter most.

About Ubique Group

Ubique Group is a fast-growing consumer and commercial products company behind brands including Flash Furniture, Bright Beginnings, Merrick Lane, Emma + Oliver, and Martha Stewart. Our Education vertical spans K-12, Early Education, and institutional buyers, and we are investing meaningfully in product, marketing, and sales infrastructure to win in this space.

What You\'ll Do

  • Own the Education vertical strategy, annual operating plan, revenue, gross margin, profitability, investment priorities, and execution roadmap across all Ubique routes to market
  • Lead execution of our Go-to-Market strategy for K-12 and Early Education, from national resellers and specialty dealers to direct buyers and eCommerce
  • Build and activate new routes to market including specialty education resellers, regional dealers, group purchasing organizations (GPOs), cooperative purchasing contracts, buying groups, and solicitations
  • Own the bid and solicitation strategy, including identifying, qualifying, and winning RFPs, state contracts, and large district opportunities
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Pricing to bring the 2027 classroom assortment to market on time and on plan
  • Develop the dealer and reseller ecosystem through partner segmentation, onboarding, enablement, and performance management
  • Provide clear, fact-based visibility to senior leadership on pipeline, performance, risks, and opportunities

What We\'re Looking For

  • 10 or more years of progressive sales or channel leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior sales leadership or vertical role
  • Deep experience in K-12, Early Education, public sector, furniture, contract interiors, or a directly related market
  • Proven success developing GPO, cooperative purchasing, buying group, dealer, or reseller channels
  • Working knowledge of public-sector procurement including RFPs, solicitations, contract vehicles, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to own a growth strategy and deliver revenue, margin, and profitability results across multiple channels
  • Strong financial acumen including P&L management, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Ability to lead through influence in a matrixed environment without direct authority over all channel resources

Preferred

  • Established relationships within K-12 districts, Early Education networks, specialty education resellers, regional dealers, or cooperative purchasing organizations
  • Experience launching a new product platform or vertical across multiple channels
  • Background in classroom furniture, learning-space design, or education product categories

Benefits

We offer a competitive benefits package that includes:

  • Major medical, dental, and vision benefits available day one — no waiting period.
  • Company-paid life insurance and Employee Assistance Program.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Employee discount on Ubique Group products.

Ubique Group offers 9 paid holidays plus 1 floating holiday per year and up to 13 Accrued PTO days per year.

Why Join Us

This is a rare opportunity to build something from the ground up inside a company that is already winning. You will have executive visibility, real authority over the vertical strategy, and the resources of an established multi-brand platform behind you. If you have the education market expertise, the channel development track record, and the builder mentality this role requires, we want to talk.

Ubique Group is an equal opportunity employer.
