Job description

The Information and Communications Specialist III, under general direction, may oversee various departmental activities including creation of internal and external organization communications and marketing/informational materials and campaigns, website content maintenance, video production, and provision of communications technical support to Alliance staff. Incumbents have significant responsibility for maintenance and enhancement of Alliance's social marketing initiative and contribute to the department's communications planning.
This position is full-time remote. Selected candidate must reside in North Carolina. Some travel for onsite meetings to the Home office (Morrisville, NC) may be required.
Responsibilities & Duties
Manage Complex Organizational Communication Projects
  • Apply advanced experience and expertise to take ownership of complex and organizationally critical projects, and to discern the level of review/input/oversight appropriate from the Senior Director
  • Write, design and/or copy edit news releases, marketing/informational materials, fliers, and other internal and external corporate communications and review work of junior staff
  • Manage video production activities
  • Oversee the work of junior staff in the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of a vibrant, strategic corporate social marketing initiative
  • Mentor and support the professional growth of junior staff

Maintain Intranet and Internet Web Pages
  • Oversee intranet home page/SharePoint content and provide technical assistance to staff
  • Work with vendor on the ongoing maintenance of a complex, robust organization website

Collaborate With Internal and External Customers
  • Represent Alliance and/or the Senior Director of Communications in internal and external meetings and in dealings with vendors, media contacts, or organizational stakeholders as requested
  • Providing communications technical support as appropriate to internal and external customers
  • Serve on committees as requested

Support Unit Administrative Needs
  • Complete and submit vendor contracts and purchase requisitions for assigned projects

Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
Required:
High School diploma and nine (9) years of direct experience in journalism, marketing, corporate communications, public relations or related field.
Or
Associate's degree in journalism, marketing, mass media or a related field from an accredited institution and seven (7) years of direct experience in journalism, marketing, corporate communications, public relations.
Or
Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, mass media or a related field from an accredited institution and five (5) years of direct experience in journalism, marketing, corporate communications, public relations.
Preferred:
Significant writing/copy editing experience, fluency with and creation and maintenance of social media/marketing initiatives in a business setting preferred.
Experience with WordPress or other content management systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities-
  • Demonstrated excellent command of grammar and strong writing skills with the ability to adapt written material to various audiences
  • Thorough knowledge of journalistic, communication, and/or publication principles and techniques for disseminating information to the public through a variety of media
  • Demonstrated command of graphic layout principles
  • Fluent with graphic design software, particularly professional design programs
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with social media and a wide variety of social networking, including the creation and maintenance of social media/marketing initiatives in a business setting
  • Advanced website content management, preferably with WordPress or other content management systems
  • Knowledge of the principles of website usability and accessibility
  • Proficient with video production/shooting/digital editing techniques
  • Strong collaboration skills and customer service orientation leading to a commitment to satisfying the needs of internal and external constituents
  • Ability to edit and analyze information materials prepared by others
  • Willingness to take on new initiatives and an inclination to be proactive in problem-solving and development of strategies to reach the goals of the department
  • Commitment to proactively mentoring and supporting the professional growth of junior staff
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers

Salary Range
$79,425 - $101,267/ Annually
