What is a remote LPC?

A Remote LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) job involves providing mental health counseling services through teletherapy or online platforms. Remote LPCs assess, diagnose, and treat clients using video calls, phone sessions, or messaging services. This role allows counselors to work from home while still offering support for clients dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, or trauma. It requires a state-issued LPC license and compliance with telehealth regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote LPC?

To excel as a Remote LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), you need a master's degree in counseling or a related field, state licensure, and a solid grasp of evidence-based counseling techniques. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and HIPAA compliance is essential for delivering virtual mental health services. Strong communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are important soft skills, as is the ability to build rapport remotely. These skills ensure effective support for clients while maintaining professional standards and managing the unique challenges of remote therapy.

What are some typical challenges faced by remote LPCs and how can they be managed?

Remote LPCs often encounter challenges such as maintaining client engagement through virtual sessions, ensuring confidentiality in remote environments, and managing potential technology issues. To address these challenges, it’s important to establish clear boundaries and protocols with clients, utilize secure and reliable telehealth platforms, and remain flexible in your approach. Many employers also provide training and resources to support remote counseling best practices. Proactively communicating with your team and seeking regular peer consultation can further enhance the quality of care and create a supportive professional environment.

The ideal candidate will possess the skills to develop individualized treatment plans and facilitate healing in a supportive environment.

About the Organization

Grateful Guidance Psychiatric Services is committed to delivering comprehensive mental health care services in Smyrna, Georgia. Our facility specializes in outpatient services, serving a broad spectrum of patients ranging from those experiencing acute mental health crises to individuals seeking long-term management of chronic conditions. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates closely to ensure that all patients receive integrated care, education, and support in their journey toward mental wellness.

Work Environment

This position is predominantly remote, providing the flexibility to engage with clients and the medical team from your home office while contributing to significant patient outcomes. Although the primary caregiving occurs virtually, our team enjoys a supportive and cohesive culture, bolstering each member's professional development and fostering teamwork. Counselors will have access to our digital tools and resources that ensure seamless communication and case management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and the Medical Team Administrator to coordinate mental health treatment strategies, both within the facility and through external referrals.
  • Provide mental health training sessions to medical, psychiatric, and security staff, ensuring they are well-informed and equipped to support patients.
  • Quickly intervene during mental health emergencies by using de-escalation techniques and other crisis management interventions.
  • Attend commitment hearings as required, ensuring compliance with facility contracts and state regulations.
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans and measurable goals tailored to the unique needs of each patient.
  • Meticulously document all patient interactions, treatment progress, and responsiveness to interventions.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality regarding all medical records and sensitive patient information.
  • Thoroughly verify previous patient mental health history and coordinate with the nursing staff to confirm any psychotropic medications that have been administered.
  • Compile regular reports on treatment effectiveness and patient status, also preparing special reports as needed for management and regulatory purposes.
  • Collaborate with nursing and mental health staff to facilitate post-release referrals, ensuring continuity of care.
Patient Population / Client Focus

The client population at Grateful Guidance encompasses a wide range of mental health issues, from anxiety and depression to complex trauma and substance misuse. Our counselors work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, reflecting a rich tapestry of experiences and needs. This diversity enriches our therapeutic environment, allowing counselors to hone their skills in addressing various mental health challenges.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Active and unrestricted licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia.
  • A minimum of two years of direct counseling experience, ideally within a clinical or outpatient setting.
Preferred Experience

While all applications are welcomed, we highly value specialties in family therapy, couples therapy, trauma-informed care, and substance use treatment. Experience in these areas can significantly elevate your candidacy, allowing you to make an even greater impact on our diverse patient base.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this position ranges between USD 70,000 and USD 100,000, commensurate with experience, complemented by a potential sign-on bonus. Our benefits package includes access to dental, vision, and health insurance, along with malpractice insurance coverage. Counselors can also expect assistance with billing and documentation, enabling them to focus more on their clients rather than administrative tasks.

At Grateful Guidance, we are committed to the continuous professional development of our team members. Counselors will have access to ongoing training programs, clinical supervision, and opportunities for advancement within the organization. You will be encouraged to pursue further certifications and specialties that align with personal career goals while making meaningful contributions to our community.
