You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.


Primary Responsibilities:

In this role you will serve as the lead for pharmacy campaign strategies, issues management, media engagement, and employee storytelling for the Pharmacy Care Services business. In this role you will:

  • Develop a solid understanding of the Optum Rx pharmacy businesses and stakeholders to provide sound strategic communications leadership
  • Create and implement a communications strategy aligned to business positions and priorities that resonates with key internal and external stakeholders  
  • Identify and pursue media opportunities that strengthen the understanding and reputation of the pharmacies with key audiences 
  • Manage business and media issues to help protect the business from reputational harm 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to pharmacy executives on communications approach, positioning, voice, and tone in high-stakes situations
  • Partner with executive communications colleagues and other functional leaders to support the internal communications needs of the business
  • Cultivate and maintain solid working relationships with cross-functional internal partners across Optum Rx and the enterprise
  • Use data and insights to assess effectiveness of campaigns and make adjustments as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience as a strategic communications leader and advisor working with at least one of the following functional business areas: Communications, Public Affairs or Marketing Communications
  • 6 years of experience as an effective external communications professional working in a fast-paced, highly scrutinized environment, coupled with a track record of success in driving engagement
  • Experience with communications efforts designed to reach government officials, policy makers, regulators and community stakeholders
  • Experience leading and managing individuals and teams
  • Media relations experience and a solid understanding of how to proactively pitch and respond to media inquiries
  • Knowledge of the health care industry
  • Proven ability to counsel and advise senior leaders and distill complex topics into clear, concise messaging as well as solid judgment in high-stakes or sensitive situations
  • Proven exceptional writing and storytelling skills and the ability to leverage multiple communications channels
  • Highly motivated leader and team player with the ability to multitask and excellent time management skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 - $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
