A Remote Literacy Coach is an educational professional who supports teachers, students, or schools in improving literacy skills such as reading and writing through virtual platforms. They provide guidance, resources, and feedback remotely, often via video calls, emails, or digital tools. Remote Literacy Coaches may work with individual educators, small groups, or entire school districts to develop effective literacy instruction strategies and interventions. Their goal is to help raise literacy outcomes by sharing best practices, assessing progress, and offering professional development—all while working from a distance.

How does a Remote Literacy Coach typically collaborate with teachers and school staff to improve student outcomes?

A Remote Literacy Coach works closely with teachers and school staff through virtual meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and ongoing feedback loops. This collaborative approach fosters professional growth among teachers and positively impacts student literacy development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Literacy Coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Literacy Coach, you need a solid background in literacy instruction, a relevant teaching certification, and experience with curriculum development.   • Provide training and support to staff on digital tools, instructional technology, and literacy practices;
  • Deliver digital literacy and/or introductory computer science instruction as assigned;
  • Support students in research, digital citizenship, and responsible technology use;
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate digital literacy across content areas;
  • Provide targeted literacy support when necessary, partnering with teachers to identify and support struggling readers;
  • Support instruction through whole group, small group, and 1:1 settings in a virtual environment;
  • Serve as a homeroom teacher and monitor student progress and engagement;

  • Collaborate daily with staff using digital communication tools and the LMS to support instruction and school initiatives (i.e. Pearson Online Classroom, Google Chat, Gmail, Google Meet, Zoom, etc.);
  • Communicate regularly with students and learning coaches to support engagement and course completion (i.e. Google Voice, POC Webmail, LiveLesson, Zoom, etc.);
  • Co-lead the Media and Technology Advisory Committee and collaborate with administration and instructional technology staff to strengthen technology integration across the school;
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate any assigned instructional staff;
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to school-wide initiatives;
  • Perform other duties as assigned, maintaining compliance with company policy and procedures;
  • Strong candidates may demonstrate these skills through experience or a demonstrated willingness to develop them.

Requirements:
  • Valid North Carolina Teaching License with certification and Master's degree in library science with certification in school library media (with a School Library Media Coordinator 076 license).
  • North Carolina residency preferred.
  • A valid driver's license or state-issued identification card.
