This position is contingent upon contract award and position availability. Selected candidates will receive a contingent offer of employment, which will become final only upon successful contract award to Maximus, availability of the position, and receipt of authorization to proceed.
The Senior Systems Administrator supports IT operations by designing, automating, testing, and deploying large-scale patching and upgrade solutions. This role focuses on scalable infrastructure architecture, enterprise vulnerability remediation, and modernization efforts in support of secure, compliant, and highly available systems across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust is required. An active Public Trust and/or DHS suitability is preferred. Must be a U.S. Citizen without dual citizenship.

Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and implement enterprise-wide patching and upgrade strategies across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Architect, automate, and maintain patching and upgrade workflows using scripting, orchestration, and configuration management tools to support large-scale, repeatable deployments.
- Lead technical planning, testing, and execution of complex system upgrades, including operating systems, infrastructure platforms, and supporting services.
- Coordinate patch and upgrade activities through formal change, configuration, and release management processes, including documentation, rollback planning, and post-deployment validation.
- Monitor vulnerability sources (e.g., CVEs, KEVs, vendor advisories) and ensure timely remediation.
- Provide senior-level technical support and guidance to system administrators, serving as an escalation point for complex patching, upgrade, and configuration issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and reporting artifacts to support auditability, compliance, and continuous service improvement.
Job-Specific Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust is required. An active Public Trust and/or DHS suitability is preferred. Must be a U.S. Citizen without dual citizenship.
- Enterprise patch and upgrade management across Windows and/or Linux environments.
- Experience remediating vulnerabilities in accordance with federal security directives.
- Automation and scripting for patching and configuration management (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, orchestration tools).
- Change, configuration, and release management in regulated enterprise environments.
- Systems engineering support for large-scale infrastructure deployments (on-prem, cloud, hybrid).
- Technical documentation and audit-ready reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering and enterprise system administration, with demonstrated focus on patching and upgrade management.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience supporting federal government agencies.
- Familiarity with enterprise ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) for change and incident tracking.
- Experience with image development, system hardening, and baseline configuration management.
- Exposure to cloud platform patching and lifecycle management (Azure and/or AWS).
- Strong collaboration skills supporting cross-functional engineering and operations teams.
