What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Level 2 Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Level 2 Engineer, you need a solid understanding of IT troubleshooting, network protocols, and system administration, often backed by a relevant degree or industry certifications like CompTIA, Microsoft, or Cisco. Proficiency with remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools, ticketing systems, and diagnostic utilities is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and client support. These skills ensure effective technical issue resolution, seamless teamwork, and high client satisfaction in a distributed work environment.

What is the difference between Remote Level 2 Engineer vs Remote Level 1 Engineer?

AspectRemote Level 2 EngineerRemote Level 1 Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires 2+ years of experience, relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Cisco)Entry-level, often with 0-1 years of experience, basic certifications
Work EnvironmentHandles complex technical issues, collaborates with teams, and supports infrastructurePerforms routine support tasks, monitors systems, and assists senior engineers
Employer UsageCommonly employed in IT support, network operations, and technical support teamsOften found in helpdesk roles, initial support tiers, and onboarding positions

The Remote Level 2 Engineer typically has more experience and handles more complex technical issues compared to the Remote Level 1 Engineer. While Level 1 focuses on basic support and troubleshooting, Level 2 engineers resolve advanced problems and support infrastructure, making them a step above in technical responsibility.

What are Remote Level 2 Engineers?

Remote Level 2 Engineers are IT professionals who provide technical support and troubleshooting for more complex issues that cannot be resolved by Level 1 support staff. They typically work remotely, handling escalated tickets, performing diagnostics, and resolving problems related to software, hardware, or network systems. These engineers are skilled in identifying root causes, implementing solutions, and often communicate directly with clients or end-users to ensure issues are resolved efficiently. Their role bridges the gap between basic support and advanced engineering teams, making them vital for maintaining smooth IT operations.

How does a Remote Level 2 Engineer typically collaborate with other IT team members to resolve escalated technical issues?

As a Remote Level 2 Engineer, collaboration with other IT staff is essential for troubleshooting and resolving more complex technical problems that have been escalated from Level 1 support. This often involves communicating through ticketing systems, video calls, or chat platforms to gather detailed information, coordinate troubleshooting steps, and share findings. Level 2 Engineers work closely with Level 1 technicians to provide guidance, and may escalate further to Level 3 or specialized teams if advanced expertise is needed. Regular virtual meetings and documentation are key to ensuring effective teamwork and knowledge sharing in the remote environment.

We are hiring on behalf of our client, who is seeking a Principal Solutions Engineer to help institutions, fintechs, and enterprises across the Americas adopt these cutting-edge infrastructure solutions with confidence and ease. This role is highly hands-on and client-facing, requiring the successful candidate to design integrations for complex environments, guide customers through deployment, and provide end-to-end technical support. The ideal candidate will seamlessly pair deep technical expertise with strong communication skills, serving as a trusted advisor to CTOs, architects, and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Onboarding & Integration: Guide financial institutions and fintechs through seamless onboarding and integration processes.
  • Architecture & Deployment: Build secure, scalable deployment pathways that effectively bridge legacy and modern systems.
  • Hands-On Technical Support: Troubleshoot, resolve technical issues, and build solutions alongside client engineering teams in real time.
  • Commercial Collaboration: Partner with sales teams on technical proposals, product demonstrations, and comprehensive RFP responses.
  • Documentation & Guides: Maintain and continuously improve technical documentation, API references, and developer guides.
  • Product Feedback Loop: Gather technical feedback from clients and translate those insights into product and API improvements by collaborating closely with backend, security, and product teams.
  • Industry Representation: Represent the technology and brand at industry conferences, technical workshops, and high-level customer meetings.

Requirements

  • Experience: 10+ years of proven experience in solutions engineering, forward-deployed engineering, or enterprise integration.
  • Track Record: A clear history of helping institutions or large enterprises deploy mission-critical, high-availability systems.
  • Technical Stack: Strong proficiency in TypeScript (or similar modern languages) with extensive hands-on experience building and integrating REST APIs.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS is essential; GCP, Azure, or Thales HSM environments are highly advantageous), microservices, and serverless architectures.
  • Security Standards: Solid understanding of enterprise security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS).
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional skills in troubleshooting complex, multi-layered technical issues under pressure.
  • Communication: Masterful communication, presentation, and demonstration skills, with the ability to bridge technical nuances and business conversations seamlessly.
  • Domain Knowledge: A strong understanding of blockchain infrastructure, digital asset custody, and institutional financial workflows is highly preferred.
  • Pluses: Relevant professional certifications (such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus; professional fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is highly valued.

Benefits

  • Compensation: Competitive annual salary ranging from $160,000 to $220,000 (dependent on experience).
  • Equity: 100-200 stock options vested over a 4-year period.
  • Health & Retirement: Comprehensive healthcare coverage and a structured 401K plan.
  • Flexibility & Location: Remote-first environment within the United States, with physical office space optional.
  • Equipment: Premium hardware package including a MacBook Pro and necessary home-office essentials.
  • Travel: All professional travel expenses are fully covered.

Interview Process

The interview process is designed to thoroughly evaluate technical proficiency, problem-solving capabilities, and cultural alignment through five key stages:

1.1. Initial Interview:30 Minutes. An introductory conversation with the Co-CEO to discuss the scope of the role, the candidate's background, and high-level mutual alignment.

2.2. Cognitive & Behavioural Assessment:Timed Online Test.An online TestGorilla evaluation completed in a quiet environment. The assessment consists of 5 specific components: Critical Thinking, Verbal Reasoning (evaluating English proficiency), Attention to Detail (textual), Numerical Reasoning, and Problem Solving.

Note: Each of the 5 sections features untimed practice questions to introduce the format, immediately followed by the real exercise, which enforces a strict 10-minute completion limit per section.

3.3. Take-Home Technical Exercise:Independent Code Assessment.A practical coding assignment designed to evaluate hands-on execution. The candidate may complete the test utilizing the programming language of their choice.

4.4. Comprehensive Panel Evaluation:180 Minutes.A deep-dive interview session conducted by a panel of engineering and business leaders. This stage encompasses four distinct segments: a Code Review of the take-home test, an Architecture Review of complex systems, an evaluation of Sales & Solutioning Fundamentals, and a dedicated Culture Fit check.

5.5. Final Executive Review:30 Minutes.A concluding conversation with senior management to finalize details, address any remaining operational questions, and confirm alignment before extending an offer.
