Summary
The Over-the-Phone Interpreter (OPI) will facilitate communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community members and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings to include medical and educational, with most calls being in a healthcare setting. This independent contractor job role is a flexible work from home/remote opportunity to expand your business as a medical interpreter.
AMN Healthcare Language Services is a technology-driven company changing the way patients and medical professionals connect across all areas of healthcare. We are seeking professional and diverse, culturally competent, and credentialed medical Over-the-Phone Interpreters to join our skillful team to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and their patients, regardless of language or cultural barrier.
OPI Responsibilities
  • Provide effective over-the-phone interpreting service for consumers.
  • Always exhibit professional skills and conduct during calls.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
  • Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
  • Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences as it relates to medical procedures.
  • Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
Spoken Language Minimum Qualifications
  • Fluent and have strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (Zophei-to-English or vice-a-versa).
  • Successful completion of a medical language proficiency assessment focused on interpreter protocols and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC).
  • HIPAA compliant work environment/setting.
  • HIPAA Training for Business Associates certificate (completed within the last year).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
  • National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI or NBCMI.
  • Accredited Medical Interpreting Training course (i.e.: ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
  • 2 years of medical interpreting experience, within a hospital or clinical setting.
