Patient Revenue Management Organization
Pursue your passion for caring with the Patient Revenue Management Organization, which is the fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization that supports the entire health system in streamlining the revenue cycle. This includes scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue functions for Duke Health.
Occ Summary
Under general management, coordinates and monitors the overall workflows, standards, and team goals. Supervise and train staff engaged in HIM functions and assist in developing operating policies and procedures.
Work Performed
Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of the functional unit managed. Manage and supervise staff. Communicates and collaborates with others within the HIM Department, as well as DHTS. Plans daily workflow and work assignments within work unit Monitors work assignments to ensure appropriate coverage on a daily basis. Maintains liaison with hospital and clinic personnel to coordinate efforts to resolve problems and concerns to ensure the integrity of the electronic health record. Reviews work queues daily to identify priorities for the day, including identification and resolution of problems with achieving targets; adjusts work assignments of staff as needed. Maintains and applies knowledge of state and federal laws and other regulatory requirements applicable to the work unit. Assures that key metrics for quality, timeliness, and customer satisfaction are met In conjunction with the HIM System Manager, recruits, selects, orients, and trains new staff.
Responsible for identifying professional development needs, initiating continued development training, and monitoring ongoing progress. Monitors staff achievement of productivity and quality expectations associated with work unit tasks. Recommends performance standards for staff and, in collaboration with the HIM System Manager, completes annual performance reviews. Serves as the technical expert for staff questions, problems, and difficult customer situations The author recommended departmental policies and procedures to include documentation and testing of database logic needs. Interacts with and provides timely verbal and written responses to internal and external customers. Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the unit; recommends, implements, and administers operating protocol and procedures to enhance operations. Actively participates in employee engagement initiatives based on work culture scores and action plans. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein andperforms other related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate to effectively solve problems. Data Entry Experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Standard medical terminology, anatomy & physiology knowledge. Critical thinking and skill in collecting and analyzing complex problems. Ability to organize and prioritize and multitask with a high degree of accuracy and recall. Strong customer service background and experience with the ability to work under pressure with time constraints to meet customer needs. Ability to create and apply specific department policies, rules, and regulations relating to verifying patient information, collecting payments, and maintaining records and forms. Knowledgeable and able to apply situational leadership skills. Ability to effectively lead teams and establish and maintain effective relationships with other personnel. Knowledge of general accounting principles. Knowledge of HIS, Epic EHR, is strongly preferred.

6 years of experience in a progressive healthcare setting to become knowledgeable of the complex activities associated with healthcare services. An associate's degree in healthcare or business may substitute for two years of experience. A bachelor's degree in healthcare or business may substitute for four years of experience.

RHIT or RHIA strongly preferred.
