Both roles are essential in digital product teams, but their core responsibilities and focus areas differ slightly.

What does a Remote Junior Product Designer do?

A Remote Junior Product Designer assists in designing digital products such as websites or mobile apps while working from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include creating user interface (UI) mockups, collaborating with senior designers, conducting user research, and iterating on design solutions based on feedback. They use design tools like Figma or Sketch and communicate regularly with team members online. The role is ideal for those early in their design career and offers opportunities to learn and grow in a flexible work environment.

How does a Remote Junior Product Designer typically collaborate with team members and stakeholders?

As a Remote Junior Product Designer, you will frequently work with cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, and senior designers using collaboration tools such as Slack, Figma, and Zoom. Regular virtual meetings, design reviews, and asynchronous feedback sessions are common, ensuring alignment despite physical distance. Proactive communication and clear documentation of your design decisions are essential to keep projects moving smoothly. You'll often be expected to share your work-in-progress, gather feedback, and iterate quickly within a supportive team environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Junior Product Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Junior Product Designer, you need a solid grasp of UX/UI principles, basic design theory, and a relevant degree or portfolio demonstrating your abilities. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, and understanding of prototyping and collaboration platforms are typically required. Strong communication, openness to feedback, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for remote collaboration and growth. These skills and qualities are vital for creating user-centered designs, working effectively within distributed teams, and contributing to successful product outcomes.

Job description

Job Descriptionย

The Company

Weโ€™re Tallwave, a digital agency. Weโ€™re a curious, competitive group of data-driven marketers, designers, and creative problem solvers who move fast to help our clients achieve their most ambitious goals. We find parity boring, and weโ€™re constantly challenging ourselves to deliver innovative solutions with speed, precision, and impeccable craftsmanship. We dream big, we drive results, and weโ€™ll make a lasting impact on our clientsโ€™ businesses.

Our ambitions are too big to leave room for individual egos, and the true measure of our success is what we can accomplish together. Our culture balances individual aspirations and accountability with each other. We value selflessness, humility, and tremendous work ethic. This drives an inspiration and dedication that can be felt across the organization.

The Person

Tallwave seeks out individuals who are a cut above. Their exceptional skill, diverse perspectives, obsession for winning together, and relentless pursuit of continuous self-improvement, both professionally and personally, give them an innate ability to lead, innovate, and inspire. They have well-honed philosophies and points of view in their areas of expertise, they think unconventionally, and their endless curiosity pushes them to constantly explore, learn, improve, and try new things.

The Job

We're looking for a Junior Product Designer who will help us raise the bar on our key client accounts. You'll support senior designers to ship high-quality product and experience design at pace across web, platforms, and digital journeys. Strong craft, attention to detail, and the ability to take direction and run with it are critical for success in this role.

The Skills

The successful candidate will:

  • Design and refine web and product experiences - screens, flows, and components - working closely with senior designers and the wider team
  • Work confidently in Figma within established design systems and brand guidelines, keeping output consistent, on-brand, and production-ready
  • Apply feedback quickly and iterate at pace, with an eye for accessibility and how designs get built
  • Communicate decisions clearly and stay organised as priorities shift across internal assets and client work
ย

The Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 1โ€“3 years of hands-on product, UX, or digital design experience (agency or in-house)
  • A portfolio that shows you can take work from concept to polished, shipped design and reason through the decisions behind it
  • Strong Figma skills, fluency with design systems, and an eye for detail; comfortable working at pace and managing feedback in a fast-moving team
  • A relevant degree is a bonus, not a requirementโ€”we care more about what you've shipped than where you studied
ย

The Culture and Perks of Being a Tallwaver:

  • We embrace a maverick attitude. Weโ€™re willing to challenge convention and think beyond the ask.ย
  • We are committed to relentless pursuit. Weโ€™re curious with a focus on personal growth.
  • We value selfless teamwork, demonstrating strong leadership qualities with a knack for collaboration.
  • We are thoughtfully rigorous, with a strong work ethic and strong attention to detail.
  • We foster an environment of empathy and compassion for each other and our clients.ย
  • We are a diverse (and competitive, and hilarious, and sometimes a little crazy) group of coworkers. You know, the kind you actually want to grab a drink with after work.ย
  • We offer career growth and opportunity. We grow leaders here.ย
  • We recognize the contributions of individuals and teams throughout Tallwave and we stop to celebrate along the way.
  • We are surrounded by badass talent and clients -- our work has been featured in TechCrunch, Forbes, Wired, Product Hunt, and more.
  • Weโ€™ve been featured on the INC Best Workplaces List, the Phoenix Business Journal Best Places to Work List, and the AZCentral Top Places to Work List.

Benefits

  • We offer comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and 401(k) plans.
  • We provide employer-paid short-term disability, long-term disability plans and life insurance.
  • Weโ€™re more concerned about how we work than where we work. We offer remote work and office hours flexibility as needed.ย
  • We trust our team and have a generous PTO policy.ย

Why Youโ€™ll Love Working with Us

Free to be you each and every day! We celebrate diversity and empower you to bring your authentic self to work, always. We know that diversity, equity, and inclusion is not about checking a box. Itโ€™s more than words; it is a pledge and a promise that Tallwave is passionate about pursuing. We recognize having an all-encompassing culture will help us learn and grow collectively and will continue to foster our mission of making everyone we work with wildly successful.

Physical Demand:

This job may require sitting for long periods of time, and minimal (if any) lifting. Some travel may be required.ย

Working Conditions

All employees are expected to operate in a professional home office environment and routinely use standard office equipment like computers, telephones, and teleconferencing equipment.ย

Position Applicants, please note the following:

At this time, this position is only open to applicants who are legally authorized to work in the United States and who are living in the United States. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship of any kind, so please do not apply if:

  • You are not legally authorized to work in the United States, or
  • You are not living in the 48 contiguous U.S. states, Alaska, or Hawai'i, or
  • You will require any kind of visa sponsorship.

Tallwave is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
