Overview

Apogee has an exciting new opportunity for a Software Engineerto be located remotely or inOmaha, NE, in support of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) Weather Systems Branch (AFLCMC/ESAW).This position will provide Software Engineering Oversight and Advisory support to the Numerical Weather Models (NWM) program. The role will provide technical guidance on the design, development, and maintenance of secure software solutions, integrated via DevSecOps practices, and ensure security and compliance throughout the Software Development Life Cycle. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on critical national defense systems while working with cutting-edge DevSecOps technologies in a collaborative, mission-focused environment. 

This is a full-time position located at Offutt AFB, NE

Responsibilities

DevSecOps & Software Engineering Oversight

  • Provide technical guidance and oversight on the design, architecture, and maintenance of secure software solutions delivered by development partners.
  • Govern DevSecOps implementation, ensuring automated security testing, code scanning, and vulnerability management are properly integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Advise and guide agile teams in translating high-level government requirements into robust technical designs and user stories.
  • Evaluate and review automated build, test, deployment, and infrastructure provisioning strategies to ensure alignment with industry best practices.

Technical Strategy & Collaboration

  • Apply systems engineering principles to analyze requirements, evaluate architecture feasibility, and advise government stakeholders on technical risks and tool selection.
  • Review and refine architecture diagrams, system specifications, and high-level technical documentation.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between government lead engineers, users, stakeholders, and development teams to ensure iterative value delivery.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies to provide strategic engineering oversight and drive continuous DevSecOps process improvements.
Qualifications

Minimum Experience:

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen Clearance: Must possess and maintain a Secret clearanceEducation: Bachelor's degree in a relevant disciplineYears of Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience to include:

  • 5+ years supporting the DoW

Technical Skills 

  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience across the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) 
  • Strong software design and expertise with secure development practices. Expertise with Python preferred. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) 
  • Proficiency in DevSecOps tools and practices including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and security integration. Experience with GitLab preferred 
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, containerization, and cloud security practices 

Domain Expertise 

  • Proven experience supporting Department of Defense software development projects 
  • Understanding of government compliance requirements and security frameworks 
  • Experience working in classified environments and handling sensitive information
