What are remote IT jobs?

Remote IT jobs are positions in the information technology field that allow professionals to work from locations outside of a traditional office, often from home. These roles include a wide range of specializations such as software development, technical support, network administration, cybersecurity, and IT project management. Remote IT jobs leverage digital communication and collaboration tools to enable employees to perform their duties efficiently from anywhere with internet access. This flexibility often leads to improved work-life balance and access to a broader job market for IT professionals.

What are remote IT jobs?

Remote IT jobs involve performing duties related to information technology from a remote location. These tech careers typically take two forms. First, remote IT workers may travel to a client’s site to provide face-to-face customer service or offer computer troubleshooting or repair help. Second, remote working may also mean performing IT tasks for a company over the internet instead of in the company’s offices. Remote IT professionals may have the same responsibilities for providing software support, database solutions, and other information technology services as IT workers who work in offices full-time.

What are some common challenges faced by remote IT professionals, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote IT professionals often encounter challenges like communication barriers, time zone differences, and difficulty accessing on-site hardware. To manage these, it's important to establish clear communication channels with your team, use remote monitoring and management tools, and schedule regular check-ins. Building strong documentation practices and staying proactive with cybersecurity measures also help ensure smooth operations and collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote IT professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote IT professional, you need a solid background in computer systems, networking, troubleshooting, and often a degree in IT or related certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional. Familiarity with remote desktop tools, ticketing systems, VPNs, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is typically required. Strong problem-solving, time management, and communication skills are vital for collaborating effectively and supporting users remotely. These skills and qualifications are crucial to ensure reliable technical support and maintain seamless IT operations in distributed work environments.

Both roles often require similar certifications and work environments but differ in technical focus and industry applications.

Can you work remotely as an IT?

Yes, many IT roles can be performed remotely, especially those involving software development, network support, cybersecurity, and help desk services. Remote work in IT often requires strong communication skills, familiarity with remote collaboration tools, and relevant certifications. However, some positions may require on-site presence for hardware setup or physical maintenance.

What is the best remote IT job to work remotely?

Remote IT jobs such as network administrator, cybersecurity analyst, and systems engineer are highly suitable for remote work due to their reliance on digital tools and remote access. These roles often require technical skills, certifications, and familiarity with remote collaboration platforms, making them well-suited for a remote work environment.

At Zensurance, we value ownership, collaboration, and innovation. Our team thrives on solving complex challenges, challenging the status quo, and making a real impact in an industry ready for change.

If you're looking to build something meaningful in a fast-growing, customer-focused company, we'd love to hear from you!

We are looking for an IT Systems Administrator to join our growing IT team!

Reporting to the Associate Director, IT, the Systems Administrator's primary focus is to help deliver project initiatives spanning the configuration, maintenance, and deployment of IT systems, with a strong emphasis on automation, scalability, and security.

This is a hands-on role: you will have the opportunity to take the initiative to solve problems, work through them to full resolution, and aim to fix the underlying issues.  A working knowledge of APIs and automation tooling is central to the role, as much of the work involves eliminating manual processes and building scalable, repeatable solutions. Just as important is the ability to partner with the business: understanding what teams are actually trying to accomplish and translating those asks into practical technical solutions.

This is a remote-first role within Canada.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer IT software and services, including but not limited to JumpCloud, Google Workspace (Enterprise), Slack, Zoom, and Confluence/Jira.

  • Configure and maintain identity and access for third-party tools and services, including but not limited to Salesforce, Zendesk, RingCentral, and M365.

  • Identify and resolve manual processes through automation tools and initiatives, leveraging APIs to build scalable solutions.

  • Research, plan, communicate, and implement IT initiatives such as new services or tooling migrations.

  • Support business requests by understanding stakeholder needs and translating them into effective technical solutions.

  • Provide Tier 2 support to the business and help manage the IT queue as required, analyzing root causes, assessing the impact of issues, owning problems through to resolution, and escalating to senior team members as needed.

  • Develop both technical and user-friendly policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • 3+ years of experience working within IT infrastructure or IT support.

  • University degree or college diploma in a recognized technical, vocational, or academic program, or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience implementing SSO, VPNs, and various forms of MFA.

  • Working knowledge of SSO connectors, including SCIM and JIT provisioning.

  • Strong working knowledge of APIs and automation, with the ability to design and build solutions.

  • Hands-on experience with centralized IAM and software management tools, as well as IT support systems such as Jira Service Management.

  • Hands-on experience with JumpCloud (or Okta), Google Workspace (Enterprise), Office 365, Salesforce.

  • Experience using data-driven approaches and metrics to define priorities, translating stakeholder expectations into technical requirements, and facilitating implementation and feature delivery across an organization.

  • Nice to Have: experience with agile workflows and project management methodologies.

$75,000 - $90,000 a year

The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $90,000, not including the annual discretionary bonus and any additional performance-based incentives.

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees may also be eligible for performance-based case incentive awards.
