Remote Investment Associates collaborate with their team using digital communication tools and are often employed by investment firms, private equity groups, or asset management companies. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in financial modeling and research. Remote work enables greater flexibility but also demands excellent time management and communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote investment associate?

To thrive as a Remote Investment Associate, you need a solid understanding of financial markets, investment analysis, and portfolio management, typically supported by a degree in finance or a related field. Familiarity with financial modeling software, Bloomberg Terminal, and certifications like the CFA are highly valued. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and analytical thinking are crucial soft skills for effective collaboration and independent work in a remote environment. These skills ensure accurate investment recommendations, strong client relationships, and successful performance in a dynamic, virtual setting.

How do remote investment associates typically collaborate with team members and clients given the virtual work environment?

Remote Investment Associates regularly use digital communication tools such as video conferencing, instant messaging, and project management platforms to coordinate with portfolio managers, analysts, and clients. They often participate in virtual meetings to discuss investment strategies, share research, and review client portfolios. Building strong relationships and maintaining clear, proactive communication are essential for successful collaboration in a remote setting. Job description

Investment Banking Associate - Current MBA Student (Part-Time / Remote)

Fireclay Partners offers a remote investment banking experience for current MBA students interested in M&A and private markets advisory. This role combines substantive research, financial analysis, and transaction support with the flexibility to contribute alongside an MBA program. Associates work within our existing development program and collaborate with senior team members and analysts on defined projects.

Role Structure

Part-time during the academic year, targeting 10-15 hours per week around your MBA schedule.

Remote work from within the United States.

Current MBA enrollment is required; this is not restricted to a single graduating class. Start timing and availability will be discussed during the process.

Work is self-directed, with clear deliverables, regular communication, and review of completed work.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review company, industry, and competitive research for business development and transaction execution.

Develop financial analyses and valuations using public comparables, precedent transactions, and discounted cash flow methods.

Contribute to pitch materials, information memoranda, buyer and acquisition-target lists, and data room content.

Assess strategic fit and synthesize research into concise recommendations for senior team members.

Support outreach preparation, coverage tracking, and internal reporting for private equity and strategic acquirer relationships.

Help coordinate analyst research, review work for accuracy, and support timely delivery of project assignments.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

Current enrollment in an MBA program with strong academic performance.

Prior professional experience demonstrating analytical judgment, ownership of deliverables, and dependable execution; finance, consulting, accounting, corporate development, or operating experience is valuable.

A clear interest in investment banking, M&A, private equity, or corporate finance, with a working foundation in accounting and valuation.

Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, professional writing, and clear communication.

Ability to work independently, meet agreed deadlines, respond promptly, and contribute consistently within a remote team.

Capacity to commit approximately 10-15 hours each week during the academic year.

Working with AI at Fireclay

AI is part of how we work. We use approved AI tools to support research, organize and synthesize information, develop and refine written materials, assist with analysis, and improve repeatable tasks. Team members are expected to combine these capabilities with financial knowledge and professional judgment to produce accurate, useful work efficiently.

We expect practical proficiency with AI tools and the ability to apply them responsibly to research and analytical work. You should be able to structure a task, supply useful context, refine prompts and outputs, and explain how you checked the resulting work. Be prepared to discuss examples from professional, academic, or independent projects using public or non-confidential information, and continue developing these skills as tools evolve.

You remain accountable for every deliverable. Verify facts, sources, calculations, and assumptions; recognize unsupported or misleading outputs; and know when independent analysis or human review is required. Use only firm-approved tools and follow confidentiality and data-handling requirements. Never enter client, deal, personal, or proprietary information into an AI system without authorization. AI proficiency complements sound accounting, valuation, writing, and analytical skills.
