Position Overview

GEICO's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is seeking experienced investigators to join our Weekend Investigations Team. This position is responsible for investigating suspected insurance fraud and other claims requiring specialized investigative review.

Senior Internal Security Investigators independently manage assigned investigations from initial referral through completion. Responsibilities include gathering and evaluating information, conducting interviews, reviewing claim documentation and evidence, identifying investigative opportunities, documenting investigative findings, and providing objective recommendations that support informed claim decisions.

This position requires investigators who can manage multiple investigations while exercising sound judgment, maintaining objectivity, and communicating professionally with customers, claim professionals, attorneys, law enforcement, vendors, and other business partners.

Although this is a fully remote position, investigators should expect a consistent workload requiring accountability, organization, and effective time management.

Shift Schedule and Weekend Pay Differential

The shift schedule is Saturday through Wednesday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This role is fully remote and eligible for weekend work shift differential.
Weekend Work Shift Differential (20%)
At the discretion of the business unit and based on business and staffing needs, a weekend work shift pay differential of 20% may be paid to non-exempt associates who are specifically assigned to, and who regularly work, the weekend work shift.


Primary Responsibilities

As a Senior Internal Security Investigator, you will:

  • Conduct investigations involving suspected insurance fraud and other claims referred for SIU review.
  • Develop investigative plans based on available information and pursue additional investigative leads when appropriate.
  • Conduct interviews with insureds, claimants, witnesses, vendors, and other involved parties.
  • Review claim documentation, policy information, recorded statements, photographs, public records, social media, and other investigative resources.
  • Analyze information from multiple sources, identify inconsistencies, evaluate evidence, and document investigative findings supported by the available facts.
  • Prepare clear, organized, and objective investigative reports that accurately communicate investigative activity, findings, and recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with Claims, Legal, Underwriting, Corporate Security, and external law enforcement agencies when appropriate.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and objectivity throughout every investigation.
  • Manage multiple investigations while meeting established service expectations and deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five or more years of investigative experience involving one or more of the following:
    • Insurance Special Investigations Unit (SIU)
    • Insurance claims handling, including Bodily Injury, Major Case, Complex Claims, or other investigative claims experience
    • Law Enforcement
    • Financial Crimes, Fraud Investigations, or another investigative discipline with transferable investigative experience
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigative interviews, evaluating information from multiple sources, and documenting investigative findings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple investigations while balancing competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and investigative technology.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.

Candidates with significant investigative experience in insurance claims, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), law enforcement, fraud investigations, financial crimes, or another investigative discipline will be given full consideration. Relevant investigative experience, demonstrated judgment, interviewing ability, analytical skills, and professional communication are valued equally with formal education.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with experience involving:

  • Insurance Special Investigations Unit (SIU)
  • Complex insurance claims investigations
  • Bodily Injury, Major Case, PIP, casualty, or coverage-related claims
  • Fraud investigations
  • Financial crimes investigations
  • Public records research and social media investigations
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator (CIFI), CPCU, or other relevant investigative designation

Annual Salary

$32.05 - $57.49

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
