Job Title: Transportation Coordinator (Remote Contract)
Job Description
This remote contract role supports a small transportation team by managing day-to-day transportation planning activities such as scheduling, tendering, resolving product issues, and handling email communication. You will work closely with Operations Planning and Warehouse/Plant teams to ensure accurate and timely transportation execution in a fast-paced environment. The position suits a self-starter who communicates clearly, pays close attention to detail, and can prioritize and manage competing requests while taking ownership of issues through to resolution.
Responsibilities
- Complete daily transportation planning activities, including scheduling shipments, tendering loads, and coordinating transportation execution.
- Monitor and resolve product and transportation issues, investigating root causes and following problems through to full resolution.
- Manage professional email communication with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure clear, timely updates.
- Work cross-functionally with Operations Planning to align transportation plans with production and inventory needs.
- Collaborate with Warehouse and Plant teams to coordinate shipping activities and address operational constraints or changes.
- Proactively identify transportation issues early, escalate appropriately, and make sound day-to-day execution decisions.
- Review transportation and related data for accuracy, using tools such as SAP and Excel where applicable.
- Balance routine transportation execution tasks with unexpected issues in a fast-moving environment.
- Prioritize and manage multiple requests and stakeholders at once, ensuring service levels and timelines are met.
- Support teammates during volume spikes by sharing workload and stepping into tasks as needed.
- Participate in holiday rotation coverage to maintain continuity of transportation operations.
- Maintain clear, accurate records and documentation related to transportation activities and issue resolution.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to work as a self-starter, picking up work independently and asking the right questions without requiring constant direction.
- Strong team collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with cross-functional partners.
- High attention to detail, especially in transportation execution and data accuracy.
- Curiosity and problem-solving mindset, with a willingness to investigate issues rather than only flagging them.
- Demonstrated ownership of work, following issues through to resolution rather than handing them off prematurely.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders simultaneously and manage competing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills for day-to-day execution in transportation activities.
- Effective organization and time management skills in a fast-moving environment.
- Comfort working in a role where priorities may shift daily and unexpected issues arise.
- Comfort using multiple systems and tools to manage transportation and related data.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Transportation or inventory management experience is helpful but not required.
- Experience with SAP is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Excel skills, including using filters, sorting, basic formulas, and reviewing data for accuracy.
- Experience with purchasing, logistics, and administrative support functions.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools for communication and documentation.
- Experience in customer service or clerical work supporting operational teams.
Work Environment
This role is fully remote and supports a small transportation team of three, operating in a fast-paced, execution-focused environment. Typical working hours are approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with reliable availability needed during core business hours. The position requires participation in a holiday rotation and occasional overtime to support business needs. You will work primarily with digital tools and systems, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and potentially SAP, while coordinating closely with Operations Planning and Warehouse/Plant teams. Candidates who live near key factory locations are preferred, as this can support closer alignment with plant operations, though the work itself is performed remotely.
