Job description

We're a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.
Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We're on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.
Location & Team Gatherings
Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We've been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.
We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.
About This Position
As part of Intersect's Engineering team, you'll lead the electrical design and technical oversight of utility-scale PV power plants that power communities and accelerate the clean energy transition. Your expertise in medium-voltage infrastructure, inverter integration, and system performance will directly shape the reliability, safety, and long-term value of our growing portfolio.
Planned to start in mid-Q1, this role includes a four-week onboarding and training period, with full productivity expected by mid-Q2. You'll collaborate closely with Development, Project Finance, EPC partners, and Operations to ensure our projects are engineered to the highest standards - from early-stage design through construction and commissioning.
Your work will strengthen Intersect's position as a leading independent power producer by delivering technically sound, code-compliant, and high-performing solar infrastructure at scale.
Team Overview
This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect's mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by delivering high-quality, utility-scale infrastructure across North America. The Engineering team partners cross-functionally with Development, Finance, Construction, and Operations to ensure every project is designed for reliability, safety, and long-term value.
By joining this team, you'll contribute to complex, high-impact projects while working alongside experienced professionals committed to technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous growth.
What You'll Do
Drive Electrical Design Excellence
  • Lead electrical design and technical oversight for utility-scale PV plants, including PV system sizing, transformers, and inverter integration.
  • Review and validate detailed engineering deliverables to ensure safety, reliability, and long-term system performance.
  • Partner with EPCs and engineering consultants to optimize plant architecture and resolve complex design challenges.
  • Own development and maintenance of technical specifications, design criteria, standards, and exhibits to ensure all documentation is comprehensive and maintains a high-quality product.
  • Serve as technical lead in vendor and EPC interactions, review proposals and technical schedules, and support contract exhibit negotiations.
  • Review constructability and support field execution through COD, respond to RFIs and submittals, support commissioning plans and testing, and resolve electrical issues through COD.
  • Support EPC RFPs and commercial supply agreements to ensure technical requirements are accurately defined while optimizing for lower LCOE.
  • Lead the development of electrical sizing and analysis tools or software to generate design calculations, performance results, and estimates.

Ensure Grid Compliance and System Reliability
  • Oversee MV system design, substation coordination, and interconnection requirements to meet NEC, IEEE, and utility standards.
  • Conduct or review power system modeling and analysis to support interconnection studies and performance validation.
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, grid requirements, and best practices for large-scale infrastructure.

Support Cross-Functional Project Execution
  • Provide subject matter expertise across development, procurement, and construction to support successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with inverter manufacturers, utilities, and project stakeholders to resolve technical issues and drive alignment.
  • Contribute to design standardization and continuous improvement initiatives across the portfolio.

Optimize Plant Performance and Monitoring
  • Support integration of PV inverter technologies and SCADA systems to enhance monitoring and operational visibility.
  • Evaluate system performance considerations to maximize long-term energy production and asset value.
  • Provide technical insight to improve constructibility, maintainability, and lifecycle performance.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Engineering focus preferred); Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • 5-8+ years of experience in utility-scale solar, clean energy infrastructure, or independent power producer environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or reviewing MV electrical systems for large-scale power plant projects.
  • Strong expertise in utility-scale PV system design, inverter integration, MV collection systems, transformers, and substation coordination.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards for PV modules, DC and MV collection, and PV inverters (NEC, IBC, IFC, NFPA, UL, IEC, ISO/TSP requirements for grid-following and grid-forming PV plants).
  • Experience with power system modeling; familiarity with SCADA and plant monitoring systems is a plus.
  • Established relationships with inverter manufacturers, EPC partners, utilities, or engineering consultants within the energy sector.
  • Deep understanding of utility-scale plant architecture and infrastructure performance considerations.
  • A collaborative, detail-oriented work style that balances technical rigor with cross-functional teamwork.
  • A steady, solutions-focused approach to navigating complex engineering challenges with accountability.
  • Alignment with Intersect's values of Humility, Equity, Authenticity, Long-run Value, and People Come First.
