Job Description
Chronicle Heritage is seeking On-Call Staff Architectural Historian who can will lead reconnaissance to inventory-level surveys and assist with efforts to identify and document buildings, structures, objects, districts and historic landscapes. They may also assist with developing National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), and local register significance evaluations and assessments of effect.
Hire Type: Part-Time/ On-Call
Location: Michigan
Job Duties:
The ideal candidate will have experience in a variety of areas including:
  • Leading small-scale historic properties surveys
  • Photographing and documenting buildings
  • Determinations of Eligibility
  • Conducting archival research
  • Understanding of relevant architectural styles
  • Working in remote areas

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in history, architectural history, historic preservation, public history, heritage conservation, history, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with the history, architecture, and infrastructure of Michigan
  • Ability to conduct pedestrian surveys, including walking in rough terrain and challenging weather in various locations.
  • Must demonstrate excellent attention to detail, a positive work ethic and attitude, reliability, and commitment to working both independently and in a team environment.
  • A valid U.S. driver's license is required at the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in architectural history, historic preservation, public history, heritage conservation, history, or a closely related field
  • Meet or exceeds the SOI Standards for Architectural History
  • 1+ years of professional experience as an Architectural Historian

Preferred Skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication, and time management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiarity with ESRI Survey123 and iOS software
