Project Control Analyst
Fully Remote or Hybrid - Agoura Hills, CA, depending on experience Position Summary Avum is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Control Analyst to support financial management across government contracts and programs. This role partners closely with program management, finance, and leadership to ensure accurate project financials, maintain compliance with federal regulations, and provide visibility into contract performance. The ideal candidate will bring experience in a government contracting environment and have a strong understanding of Costpoint, project level financial tracking, and indirect rate structures. This role plays a key part in supporting profitability, cost control, audit readiness, and overall program financial health. Key Responsibilities * Partner with Program Managers and leadership to develop, manage, and update project budgets, forecasts, and Estimate at Completion (EAC) models
  • Monitor project financial performance, including revenue, costs, margins, and burn rates, and provide variance analysis and recommendations
  • Support job cost accounting activities, including tracking direct and indirect costs across contracts
  • Maintain a strong understanding of indirect cost rate structures, including fringe, overhead, and G&A, and support rate calculations and analysis
  • Support contract billing processes, including cost plus, time and materials, and fixed price invoicing, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Review and track labor, subcontractor, procurement, and other direct costs to ensure alignment with project budgets, funding, and ceilings
  • Assist with maintaining accurate timekeeping and labor distribution in accordance with DCAA requirements
  • Monitor contract funding, ceilings, and expenditures to ensure projects remain within scope and budget
  • Support incurred cost submissions and provide documentation for audit readiness, including DCAA and DCMA reviews
  • Support contract closeout activities, ensuring financial reconciliation and compliance with contract requirements
  • Support adherence to internal controls, policies, and ethical financial practices across project and accounting activities
  • Prepare financial reports, program reviews, and ad hoc analysis for internal leadership and external stakeholders
  • Support estimating and proposal preparation activities, including cost inputs and pricing support
  • Collaborate with accounting and finance teams on general ledger alignment and month end close activities. Support project setup, billing, and financial reporting
  • Assist in maintaining and improving project control processes, tools, and reporting standards
Costpoint and Systems Responsibilities * Support and work within Deltek Costpoint across modules including General Ledger, Projects, Billing, Payroll, and Time and Expense
  • Assist with project setup, billing structures, and chart of accounts alignment to ensure compliance and accurate financial tracking
  • Understand how Costpoint supports DCAA compliance requirements and ensure data integrity across systems
Partner with accounting and finance teams to maintain consistency between project financials and system reporting Requirements Experience and Qualifications Experience supporting financial management in a government contracting environment
  • Strong understanding of project or program control, budgeting, and financial forecasting
  • Hands on experience with Deltek Costpoint required
  • Extensive hands on Excel experience required, including advanced data analysis, financial modeling, and managing large, complex datasets in a government contracting environment
  • Knowledge of FAR Part 31, CAS, and DCAA requirements
  • Experience with job costing, indirect rate structures, and contract billing
  • Familiarity with cost reimbursable, time and materials, and fixed price contracts
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights to program and leadership teams
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
Preferred Qualifications * Experience supporting DoD or federal agency contracts
  • Prior exposure to DCAA or DCMA audits or reviews
  • Experience supporting pricing, proposals, or cost estimates
  • Related certifications is a plus, but not required
